4) don't forget : RESIN DUST IS TOXIC. so wear a mask while doing this and don't have food or drink anywhere near.
I have sawed the wing of my Unicraft Junkers J.1000 a long time ago (http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,27364.0.html ), but I think I will not do it anymore, now that I am a father, risking to poison my son... Thanks anyway.

How about going a different route and making it a canopy wing on struts above the cockpit?
Martin
Here is the Martin-Bayer MB-51D if I have well understood... ;D

I will not build it alas, as I have already used the Mustang wings for another model...

Tophe,

actually I meant to purely use the new wing in a parasol configuration, with the struts attaching directly to the fuselage (or the original wing roots) and leaving off the original Mustang wing completely (except perhaps for wing stubs/pods to accommodate the undercarriage, or alternatively have a fixed undercarriage).

Martin
Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

Tophe

You are right Martin, this would be quite a different Mustang... ;)

Tophe,my friend, I fully agree with you. Had my stepson been small when I was first working on resin models, I would have made the same choice as you. Had I been aware of you having a small.child I would have cautioned you against it,myself. Use my cutting techniques on plastic for the near term.  Happy modeling ... !!!

P.S.   the last of those designs gets my vote ...

Cut the fuselage straight back from under the spinner, past the wing root and then down below the wing join and back towards the front, saving the radiator scoop. Now you can slide the one piece wing in, and then cut the pieces mentioned above to fit the wing. I might need to draw a picture to help with what I was saying
You are very right Captain: I do not like the D scoop under the spinner, and I often discard it into a pretty glider. This has been my choice there at last:

PS. the ventral scoop remains for air-con in summer...

You know what? Psychiatric pills are not that efficient... :-\ ;D My BiCh-51D will not be able to fly anymore... I must explain:
A: trying to adapt the Cheranovsky wing, I had a hard time truncating again and again the Moostang fuselage, and it was never enough, by far.
B: I turned upside down the wing and all joins perfectly!

Well, with the curvature below, Ing. Bernoulli tells me there is no lift anymore but a force downward, but I don't care! I am a what-ifer!  ;D ;)

Many modern super-critical wings look as if they're on upside down Tophe, don't worry about it. You're just a few years ahead of the game with the Bitch Mustang.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
