Well I am at last getting back into building something, or in this case somethings.

The one on the right is being built OOB and is the Airfix MkI/IIa kit and while it will be technically RAF it will not be what you expect.
The one on the left is a bit of a cross kitting mashup, and you should be able to see how the wing does not realy fit the fuselage. Ha, Ha, Ha.
PSR will prevail.

This is just a teaser and the two models will faeture in separate threads soon. Possibly a new definition of soon!

The Phantom. He has featured before, but is just not painted yet. Destined to be "Black Mike".

The Wooksta!

The one on the left - the Academy XIVc wing - will need new radiators.  They cocked it up - the sides are perpendicular to the ground when they should be perpendicular to the wing surface.

Quickboost do a set, likely copies of the Fujimi F.XIV radiators, which are intended for the Fujimi kit but I know a few who've used them on the Academy kit - one of which was done as a whiffed Isreali one.

Looking for them, I found this rather nice conversion piece for PR stuff:

Cracking set that Lee, well spotted.

The Wooksta!

I'll have to order one at least - the etch looks to be highly... duplicatable in thin plastic card or even drink can aluminium.  There's a guy on Britmodeller who swears by the stuff and his scratchbuilding/detailing abilities are some of the best I've ever seen.

The Wooksta is absolutely right about the radiators on the Academy      Mk XIV wing.

But by removing the kit radiators substituting them with the ones from the Airfix F22 kit this is the result.

...and it does fit in with the backstory.

Also the fitting of the Academy wing to the Airfix kit was not too difficult just some plasticard and PSR needed.

OK folks, these two are now finished and were on show at the Scottish NATS at Perth.

Airfix MkI.
This is one of the aircraft that Great Britain dispatched to join the squadrons that had already been sent to assist republican Spain.
They arrived just before Christmas in 1938 and added to the force of Hurricanes that had arrived some nine months earlier.
On arrival they were repainted in Republican markings as well as having the RAF undersides of Black and Silver/White repainted in light blue as this was regarded as much more appropriate for Spanish skies.
The RAF cycled many squadrons worth of pilots through this scheme and like the German Condor Legion learned many worthwhile lessons about combat techniques.

Spifire EHH

(EHH – Ezer's Hebrew Hybrid.)

This uses the fuselage, engine/propeller, tail unit, & radiators from the Airfix F22, and the wing and u/c from the Academy Mk XIV.

During the 1948 Israeli War of Independence an Egyptian Spifire F22 was shot down over the Sinai desert. The pilot was able to make an emergency landing on a desert road and was subsequently captured.
The aircraft was found to be mostly intact apart from the outer wing sections which were completely non-reusable. However Israeli Air Force engineers believed that they could make a flyable aircraft by grafting a MkIX wing onto the fuselage.
Ezer Wiesman, CO of no 101 fighter squadron, liked this idea and said that he would use it as his personal mount. He had also seen pictures of an RAF CO's personal Spifire that was painted overall gloss black and he decided that his would be painted similarly.
The conversion was a success however, but as this was the only RR Griffon engine in the Israeli inventory it only lasted just short of eighteen months before it could no longer be maintained. The aircraft was subsequently reduced to spares.
Ezer had so liked his black Spitfire that he had a standard MkIX painted up in the same colour scheme, even to having the same serial number (this was not the first time this had been done, several years before several Austers carried the same registration letters).
This is the Spitfire that to-day flies with the Israeli Air Force Historic flight wereing a slightly modified version of the original colour scheme.

Excellent work JayBee.

I found myself actually checking on your backstory of Ezer Wiesman's hybrid Spitfire as it's so darned believable!  ;D
