Trike gear and a longish anti-strike fin has to be the way to go.

If not, and you put a very tall tailwheel in there a) it's got to have somewhere to retract into and b) the main wheels would need to be a lot longer so the aircraft can assume the correct angle of attack to take off.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

the rear gear can retract into the rear fuse
i thought spits took off pretty flat? im sure they lift the tailwheel before they get airbourne

Not quite.

Spitfires, and other tailwheel aircraft too, raise the tail during take-off to minimise the drag so they can get to flying speed faster. Then, when they get there, they raise the nose, or drop the tail, to increase the wing's angle of attack to generate the lift to take-off.

A nosewheel aircraft is already in the 'tail high' position and rotates around its mainwheels to increase the wing's AoA as described before.

righto cheers
when iv flown them on sims it feels like they just basically take off without much rotation
il make sure it sits right

What about a 'High sitting' tail wheel so you can do a flare and it acts as a safety factor to 'bounce' the nose down.
There I go, ignoring the possibility of a box to think inside of!  :o

I'm not with you mate its got to be long enough so the rear prop doesn't hit the deck
It sits 'tall' enough to keep rear prop from hitting but compresses low enough to get AoA for takeoff/landing  while still keeping rear prop clear

i dont have that kind of tolerance to play with lol

the rear prop is actully a bit bigger than the front prop i might swap them over

That's the problem with simulation, because it simulates........  ;D

P3D has a very realistic flight model apparently, but then it's produced by Lockheed-Martin so I suppose it should do!

im not allowed in a real 1
i used to fly a fair bit on ww2online

iv modified (ie shrunk) the rear prop which has allowed me to drop the rear wheel a bit and it looks quite a bit better now

just for you pr19

extended the wings a bit

am i right in thinking that would decrease the wing loading a bit (to help carry the extra ton ish of engine) and gain a bit of altitude at the expense of roll rate?

Way to go!

Yes, exactly right, that's just what it does.

The shape you've got is very close to the Mk VI and VI high altitude fighters. With that wing shape it's pretty difficult to extend them in any practical way, but you've made a good job of it there.

BTW P3D isn't a full motion simulator, it's a  sort of 'Turbo-Flight Simulator FSX' for professsionals, but mere mortals like us can buy a single user licence for around £45-50. I may get a copy when I'm rebuilt my big desktop PC.

there isnt much else i can do with the wings unless i mess about with the root with seems like ALOT of work
i do have a vague memory of seeing a spit with pointy wings it must be the version you mention.

starting to tidy it up now and tbh it looks MUCH better with no gear lol i might do it in flight instead (also means my 48 scale 109 can have its main gear legs back lol)

Actually any Mark of Spitfire could have the pointy wing tips added, just as any of them could have clipped wings too.

It was just a matter of fitting whichever one of the three different tip sections they desired. My Dad said some of the PRXIs on 541 Sqdn had the pointy tips but they were flying so high anyway, and weren't planning on doing too much twisting and turning, that they had very little effect.

The Wooksta!

Any mark prior to those with the 20 series wing, yes.  That was an entirely different kettle of fish entirely, although when Joe Smith started work on that, they added the pointed tip and cut it down.  It's largely the same structure - the ribs are in the same places, for example, but the leading edge is raised (I *think*) and the ailerons changed too.  Plus different radiators.

I've read that as well, it would have produced a more laminar flow, which they'd started too get the hang off by then.
