I like that idea of the different colour metal for the bumper.

Works well

Well it IS built from scrap. Did you notice the fence posts in there?

Slooooooooowly I build. Step... by... step.
So I got far enough to start setting all the parts against and next to each other to get a better idea of the finished product.

So I can see from the side it should have the right combination of security and visibility. Why is the driver's side rear passenger window solid armor? How ofter do you really look out it?

I think I might need a few more slots on the driver's side of the windshield. But you really don't want to hit a Zombie at 80 Miles Per Hour and have him come in through the winshield either!  :o
Dang I missed the Detroit Auto Show! I wonder if I can make L.A? ;D

A good way to keep your windscreen clean from insects.
But if some flies have the "luck" to targeting through your small and little eye-holes, you driving blind.
Why don't you use in addition some protected cameras outside and two little screens inside to see, where to you are steering?

The Chicago Auto Show is Feb 8 through the 17th. That's were I got the zombie car photos last year. The last few years there have been military equipment on display. I have photos of the ProMax MRAP, a Stryker and the latest Bradley. Last year I got Hot Wheel cars for the commemorative Camero.

Coming along nicely eh !? Love the 'junkyard' look to it. I'd agree a few more holes to see out would be nice.

Okay now these are blurry pictures. But what the heck, it's the first fitting of the the chassis to the body with the interior included and I'm full of coffee. Dino Dan (My ASSistant) seems fascinated by the bars over the passenger side windows although the plow also seems curious to him.

You can see the results of the Backyard Engineering practice of "Meassure once, forget the numbers and cut and weld stuff together anyway." in how the front plow sets. I still have to put the dolly wheel on it so it will not drag the car to a halt in driveways and over curbs, but it looks "Good enough for now"!

Time for another pair of pictures. As you can tell from the position and size of the plow the boys rely on that backyard engineering motto of "Messure once, forget the numbers, then cut stuff up anyway and weld it together until it looks okay". I've still got to get the 'Dolly' wheel on the plow frame so it won't bottom out and stop the car on curbs and driveways.

I'll have to form the lower pan for the rear because the chrome bumper is just a waste of time and light bouncing off of it might end up being 'Zombie Bait'.  Soon I'll be done but now comes the hard part where I don't rush it and mess up.

I got the engine glued in, the chassis solidly in place with the body THEN I see the alternator.  :banghead:

***************************************************

The more I thought about the Zombie Runner plow the more I remembered. During one 'Gas Crunch' I built a Chevy Vega for a highway runner. Of course I built a ground hugging air dam onto it and it did wonders on the highway. I could run a substained speed with less throttle and 'draft' off of a humming bird. The only trouble was when I got to a town. Sharp driveways were greeted with a loud "Scraaaaape!" as I drove into them. I tried a plastic 'border' two inches high. But the final solution was a little harder. Something like this.

How do the parts in the red boxes have anything to do with the plow?
I hinged the whole darn thing and put two rollers on the bottom. A Terrain Following Air Dam. This one is a uni-roller but hey! The boys only found one little wheel on a cart they could use.

I like how this is turning out! Pace yourself and it will come out great.

I know what you mean! this tiny wheel (stolen nose wheel from an Italeri B-25G), the hand built supports, mainshaft, collar and (Hopefully!) spring willl slow the progress a lot as I shall have to take a break every time I want to toss it. I plan on it being a 'caster' wheel so it won't interfer with the steering of the car.
But then "The best laid plans... ect" and Master Murphy do have their own ideas.

I like the idea of having a roller under the plow.....good idea ! She's looking awesome now  !

DISASTER HAS STRUCK! My poor blind dog apparently walked into my rolling bench hard enough to knock it over sending the Zombie Bird to the ground and then stomped the body and chassis into several small distorted pieces while I slept.
So I have a driveline, four nice tires and rims and a few of the pieces I built or parts of them. Of course Ye Old Carpet Monster took it's share of the bounty.
*SIGH* Looks like a complete  restart is in order.
