That looks great! Who needs shiney cars anyway? Not if the zombies are after you....

Thank you. Shiny is bad as it might draw the eye of unwanted wanderers.

I am getting there.
Might be good enough to actually be welcomed to club meetings.

Love the dust effect. I want to make the fire truck look like it hasn't seen the inside of a firehouse in quite a while.

Go to the MircoMark site and look for Dust n Rust. it seems to work.

So while priming and then painting the wheels one at a time I started on the side armor over the window. I cut index cards to fit over the wing and rear side window areas and then painted them silver straight from the spray bomb.

You might notice they are rather larger than the windows I'm covering but I can always trim if I must.

So then comes making them look like some older rusty metal like you might find in a shop where they repair cars. Don't need no 'Bling' if it does the protection thing!

The left side panels in the picture are in different phases of using the Rust n Dust kit. I will be scraping through the rust and stuff when I do the outside to show scratches and scrapes.

So I thought "If someone was looking for a set of original wheels would the color matter? Or would it matter to a couple of guys throwing it together? So here is what I did.

Now that are (mostly) all nice and pretty I get the fun of making them uglier!

ON TO THE UGLIFICATION!!

I do have a learning curve even though some people say you need a straight edge to check it.  ;D So after going a little (?) hog wild on the undercarriage I went after the wheels with a softer touch. So here are the first three steps and I'll doing a 'light dusting' later.

Some silver on the dust caps of the front wheels and all the lug nuts, a few touches on the rims from 'curb rash' and these will be done.

Looks good! Old rims can be anything from light rust to just traces of paint. I just ordered the rust and dust myself. Your example here convinced me to try it.

I have to warn you to go lightly and really, really stir the paint well. Don't shake it as the lids don't seem to seal to well. Ask me how I know?  :banghead:

Does it have any texture to it? Badly rusted ares can have a rough build up of rust.

You might want to try the table salt under cheap hair spray before painting for some surfaace rust. But the color and dust can add a lot of texture, especially when the dust is sprinkled on while the rust or flat coat are still wet.
