Thanks for the info on salt. I was under the impression that water was used instead of hair spray but, hey, why not? I want to make some of the panels look like they had been painted once a long time ago and had rusted through. Also any spot that had been welded would be rusty.I had better work on this rust technique as it will cover alot of this model.

I always was told salt melted in water.

When the water evaporated the salt would be left behind. Hopefully in the places you wanted it to be.

But the large grain sea salt would give you 'chunks' of raw under-surface which I have seen on lots of vehicles.

Two distinct methods here SALT versus Hairspray
Both have their places and are well discussed all over the interwebnet.

An alternative that I find easier and quicker to replicate chipping or even rusting spots is to get a piece of foam (inside of a cushion spongy type  not the white packing around stuff type) tear off a small piece. Unevenly is nice.

Get target colour paint and dip in the sponge, dab few times on paper towell to get the excess off then sparingly dab lightly onto the model to give you an uneven "stamp" after leaving some paint behind. Repeat until satisfied but stop before it is too much... therein lies the trick

This also works on buildings made from plastic kits to get the brick or stone effect. I've used it on an 1/76 Airfix Castle kit, came up a treat.

Started the required zombie plow. I took a hint from the highway department.


I used a PS plastic cup for the curved portion with Plastrutc and Evergreen angle iron and strips. Hope you like it.

I found the lighter you go on the 'Dust' (Step 4) the better the effect.

I've been working on the plow lately. I attached the horns and other chrome pieces earlier this week. I added some structure above the plow to keep zombie parts from getting all over the windshield.

Kind of a zombie strainer.
Added the ring mount behind the cab. The third leg will attach to a built out part of the armor.




First attempt at hillbilly armor. I used plastic from a sign so forgive the odd colors on some parts.


I want to bring the armor further down the body of the truck with a door to get in and out of the back of the cab.
I recieved the Micro Mark Rust and Dust. I can't wait to try it. I also recieved some Aves from the SSM store. Nice quick shipping!

Thanks. I want the whole thing to look improvised by some farm boys using found scrap and junk. This is where the rust will come in.

I found some Krylon "Ruddy Brown" primer at Wallyworld. I sprayed some on to see if it would make a good base for rusty armor plates. Tell me what you think.

I also built some protection for the windshield. Its spaced far enough from the windshield to allow the wipers to work. Have to wash off the zombie juice once and a while.

A lot of work with the Rust and Dust will be required but I think its a start.
