Quote from: Ian the Kiwi Herder on March 16, 2013, 08:41:25 PMHad a blast with this project, just have to make a decision now for the next box to open:

RoK Special Forces V-22 ?? (thanks Kit)
Israeli P-47N ??
Omani Eurofighter ??
French Navy F/A-18 ??
French AF Spitfire 22 ??

or another

R A F A L E ??

So here I am. I have all of the kits mentioned above in the stash, all of the decals/extras/loadout I need to complete any (or all) of them. All I need is to make a decision.

So here's a brief outline of what I have in mind for each:

RoK Special Forces V-22 - A digital/fractal pattern scheme of black, very dark grey or blue & purple

Israeli P-47N - Suez stripes on brown & dark blue/grey camo, or possibly oxidised/weathered NMF.

Omani Eurofighter - In the pale grey/mid grey camo scheme they use currently on their M2000's

French Navy F/A-18 - Most of you will know the F/A-18 was pitched hard to the French as an F-8/Etendard replacement back in the very late 70's/early 80's - I think one was painted-up in Aeronaval markings for Farnborough or the Paris Salon that year. So 'What If' they had gone ahead and bought them ??

French AF Spitfire Mk22 - Overall pristine painted silver finish, late 1940's.

The two Rafales I have in mind I'll keep to m'self just now - yes It's a tease, but I believe the surprise will justify the secrecy  ;D. So the purpose of this post is garner some feedback, I've always put a lot of faith in the opinions of folks here, always full of the best of ideas and suggestions. I'll leave this open until after the weekend, then make a decision.

In the meantime I've got a couple of 'real world' F-4's on the bench, a 1:72 F-100, and two classic Airfix projects from their heyday - The SMB2 and the F-80.

Please jump-in, looking forward to reading what you have to say.

1/72?  :o

Isn't this almost heresy on your part Ian? I thought you were a 'died-in-the-wool' 1/48 man?  ;D

I applaud your choice of the F-100 though, I've been looking at a couple of my F-100 kits with a glint in my eye.......  ;)

Oh yes, my vote's for the V-22, not that I'm biased you understand.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Dude !!!   How can we choose anything with nothing but air planes on your list ???   You need some 1/35 scale armor or some trucks or cars to choose from. Besides, nothing on your list strikes my fancy ...   You could at least have a "real" airplane on your list. You know, one with at least two or more wings and a propeller :.....

That's fair comment, Padre. I do have a Heller 1:35 Leo which could go down the IDF route too.... Consider it added to the list.

Kit, It's about:

1  Stash reduction
2  Display space
3  Ease of transport, either to another place here in NZ or back to the UK if circumstance dictates.

But I still build mostly 1:48

Well,I say go be different and build your tank. You can use a change of pace, anyway.  But my.second choice is the Spitfire. Or,you could build both !!!

Thorvic

I would go for the Marine Nationale F-18 Hornet, as that would look quite different in Etendard camo or the Crusader Blue Grey with a French based missile load

Will definitely be wearing an all French loadout, Geoff. Need to do something with all those Rafale leftovers

Dare I suggest the F-18 with one of the V-22`s rotors positions dead center for a whacky helo build?  ;D

French F/A-18, definitely a French F/A-18. Alongside a French F-15A ;D. I thought about a French Hornet, during "Enduring Freedom", with a low-viz grey and desert sand scheme but never built her.

I 'vote' for the V-22, if only for the paintjob

Please?

RoK Special Forces Turboprop F-18, using the Rotor from the V-22 !!

Ian, if your thinking seriously about the V-22, have a look at the Ka-58 profiles I did.  There's a RoK machine, if in different colours to those you mentioned.  I haven't got a V-22, but you if want me to re-work a colour scheme for a look-see, give me shout.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
