Splendidly bonkers - well done!

WOW!!! Thanks for all the kind words. TOPHE, you're site is truly inspirational. I am seriously tempted to do a McDonnell Moonbat variant of the P-38 now.

I was thinking of running a competition about the four main kits/aircraft used in construction, with a kit as a prize...set a precedent???? I'm very busy this weekend so I doubt I'll make any further progress.

Started fiddling with a Do-217, though..... ;)

Well, she's up and floating. Again I've left off the varnish...this is part of a long term project, have to decide about weathering, finish etc....:

and:

Really she a spotter for airstrikes, artillery, big gun targeting etc. Lacks any defensive arnament of her own, uses excellent manoevreability to get out of trouble ( I know I spelt that wrong) ;D ;D.

waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

part of it is from a Skyrocket, isn't it? (short nose version; I have floatplanized one in the past)

Army of One

Some great fettling there......would it be based on a ship...?

Well spotted on the Skyrocket...fuselage and clipped wings. Most of the rest came from a half-constructed Hawkeye (too damn big). Cowling and prop from a retired Spitfire and floats from a RUFE. Working on a larger bomber/commerce destroyer floatplane now but this will take some time (I might need to get the resin floats for a JU-52).

Great inventive mix!

If doing your commerce raider in 1/72.....ask if anyone has spare set from the Airfix one....I'm sure it comes with both wheels n floats for either version.....

Sadly, that's my main problem with religiously sticking to 1/48...very few large floats banging about. Years ago I used to be a dab hand at woodwork and would patiently carve engine cowlings, floats etc. Just can't do it now...two kids, a cat and an occasional wife to look after ;). Plus all my tools were nicked from a flat I lived in .

I'm very tempted at present to 'do' to a Catalina or two some horrific surgery....!

Tophe

Do you mean: "hulls of Catalina 1/72 would be perfect as floats 1/48"?

PR19_Kit

Catalina hulls in 1/72 would be VERY wide for floats in 1/48 I'm sure, it's quite a podgy aeroplane.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Sorry ;D. I meant I was going to have a go at doing something with the Cats as a whole. Not sure as yet, have to have a good think....there was that Ekranoplan idea .

This is SO lovely - just back online after a couple of days. If it had not already been nominated for the Whiffies, I'd do it! The all green livery suits her well, I REALLY like this thing
