WW2 COD suggestions

The Martin Mauler is about the right time and Martin proposed a COD version of it. For that matter, move the Douglas AD-5 forward a tad. I agree with the Avenger or even one of the Lockheed twins and Beaufighter. Grumman also proposed a transport version of the F7F but I've never seen a drawing, it could have very well been based on the XTSF for all I know. Maybe Grumman could have proceeded with the XTB2F and it followed the S2F family and they made a dedicated COD version. Hmm. How about a DC-5? The Grumman Guardian was close to the right timeframe as well.

I'd already mentioned the Spearfish earlier...

As for the Fleet Shadower, unlikely.  It would need new engines as Pobjoy got drafted to work elsewhere.

Supermarine Sea Otter was actually used onboard FAA carriers for COD duties as my dad actually helped maintain HMS Ocean's Otter in the post war Forties 

Its replacement the Supermarine Seagull would probably be the more suitable model however for whiff purposes

A striped down B-25 would fit the bill......

With folding wings and a big cargo door the B-25 would be a nice whiff. The P-61 would be interesting with a larger central fuselage and a rear loading ramp. Of course a tail hook would be needed but how about different flaps for better slow speed handling?

I was going to mention light comms types, dadlamassu beat me to it with the Oxford and Avro Annie,  I'll add the Beechcraft Model 18/SNB in for the USN.

How about the unloved Curtiss SO3C Seamew being relegated to a COD when it proved unsatisfactory in it's intended scout role, both USN and RN.  Also OS2U Kingfishers and SOC Seagulls as the SC Seahawk came online?

The Fairey Seafox could be used for the RN early-mid war.

Grumman Avenger or Fairey Spearfish.  If the Gannet COD.4 could do it, why not these (especially since, like the Gannet, the Avenger was used in ASW and AEW configurations and - as the TBM-3R - a COD aircraft)?
