So well done!
(seeing the picture, I was wondering: "where have I seen this shape? I am sure it existed somehow...") ;D

This is some inspired whiffing! I spotted the Tornado tail right away but the rest had me stumped. A completely plausable story that made me think, "Yeah, that should have been!".

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Jets are often not that eye catching to me but what sets this model apart from most others is the presentation...I REALLY like your pictures, your pictures with the figures in them are very well done and brings some life to the model.

Very nice kitbash and story  It certainly looks right as a Canadian aircraft dressed in those colours and markings. I did one as a Soviet replacement for the TU-128 Fiddler, using the minicraft 1/144th scale Backfire and a PM models 1/72nd scale SU-21, the fit of the parts was really good too.
Chris.

Great. Do you have pics of your creation? Should be very similar to mine - making a Soviet heavy fighter (the result actually looks a lot like the Tu-148 project that never left the drawing board) from it was an initial thought, but that was IMHO too "obvious". Should work well, though. But the idea of a long range interceptor was a great match for Canada and the 60ies/70ies era that it turned out the way it is. Good ideas seem to turn up frequently and in many places...

Besides - many thanks to everyone (as well as the nomination! )! Sorry that I did not reply immediately, I haven't been online for some days. PMs have been replied to.  <_<

Concerning the pics: yes, I see them aqs a part of the model kit building process, as well as the story. It is one package for me - and, as you state it, setting the kit in scene adds much to the overall impression. Most of the times I try to find backgrounds that belong to or at least match the model - in this case I found some airfield  pics with a CF-101 starting in background, and that is just perfect. Or the vast landscapes in the flight scenes - that's all real Canada in the far North. You literally hear the engines scream.
It is, nevertheless, not about prefectionism. To me the first overall impression is important, so that Preiser figures and simple liveries on the models suffice. But when I can create a certain mood with these simple means, than the Mission is accomplished.

Again, many thanks to everyone

The build thread is here for my version, I really would like to do another one, as long as I can find a donor Backfire for right money.

This looks awesome - I did not expect that this kitbash is so "common"? Your Soviet fighter looks great, and finally I can see a version with the original T-22M fin and without the spine which I added on mine in order to change the overall lines a bit more. The Su-27 style cammo looks great, too. If mine had become a Soviet fighter, it would probably have ended up NMF or all-grey, pretty simple, so the CAF version with the pretty trim lines was another argument for the Kodiak variant. Thanks a lot for posting this, I will pass the link to a fellow member on FlickR who is currently also doing this conversion!

I am glad you like it, a friend of mine in Canada did some measurements for me as he had a 1/144th Backfire and a dead 72nd scale flagon that I had sent him for bits, and they went together spot on, so I took it from there. NMF would suit it down to the ground, maybe weathered down and looking sorry for itself, as it had been a cancelled project parked up in an abandoned airfield or museum in deepest Russia somewhere. The old 1950's to 80's Soviet stuff is a big favourite of mine, and if room allowed I would build what was available of this era's aircraft.
