tc, the reason most night-bombers were not painted black on the upper surfaces is that it actually makes the aircraft more visible to night-fighters flying above them. The aircraft stands out as a black blotch on a lighter background of greys & grey-muted colours. Using a pattern of darker & lighter greys, or a standard day-time colour scheme works best.

I'd suggest looking at some of the more inventive German schemes & modify them to suit your own purposes.

TC - you got me thinking - maybe the same fuselige but with jumos under wing - 4, maybe 6

love your progress

Dumaniac

Cheers Dumanic.   I think six or even eight Jumo`s would be a better fit. Perhaps even try and get a swept wing look as well. ;)

Cheers Guy. Kinda knew a lot about that already and while I said black scheme, I didn`t entirely mean all overall black.

More kinda like this....  ;D

Gondor

I suppose that if the aircraft took of from Europe in the late afternoon, just before dusk it would have the cover of night for the whole trip to America.

Look at either the He 177s from KG100 during Steinbock in '44 or the schemes worn by the Ju290s of KG200 in '45.

That He111 scheme is what I had in mind for my bomber n fighter escort....or possibly one of the late war Ju88/Me110 night fighter schemes.....really can't wait to see it finished...!!

Part of my plan for the back story will involve the capture of the Azores so that should lighten the trip time a bit.

Good point, will do.

Anyway, today`s small update.

Jumo engines and bomb pylon/rack now attached. Will mask off shortly and then break out the filler.

Great work......what  bombs will you be using....?? I have a small assortment of standard WWII German  ombs in 1/72 and even fewer in 1/48 if you wanted a 1/72 'larger' bomb...pm me if you want anything.....H

Possible slight problem depending on how "accurate" you want to be. The rear of your Jet Engine mounting overlaps the hinge line for the flaps. Perhaps you should move the outer end of the flaps inwards so that the hot exhaust from the jet engines doesn't burn a hole in the flaps when they are deployed. You have more flap area anyway from the increased wing span so losing a few feet Meters from their ends wont matter.

What about filling in the engraved panel lies behind the jet exhaust and scribe slightly shorter ones that end either side of it......?

i fear Gondor is correct - I think the idea of hanging the jet under the normal nacelle was to create clearance from the flaps - so there are a couple of options - you might move the jumo rearwards and scribe the flaps accordingly (like on the 262) - you might hang the jumo via a small pylon from its current position  - or you might glue it under the outboard nacelle - or as has been suggested, re-scribe the flags to create the illusion of a non moving bit immediately above the exhaust

I have been working on a He343 in 48 scale - conversion out of old Ar 234 kits - it is slow progress when you are studying - the designers moved the jumos well forward to avoid fowling the flaps - so I have read

regarding accuracy, I don't get too wound up about accuracy of these conversions - it is Luft 46 after all - and this is just a hobby - please yourself

keep going - I am enjoying the progress - I am going to a hobby comp next weekend and will now be on the lookout for a cheap He177 - or a couple of He111 kits to make a "Russia bomber" or "Moscow bomber" in the same vein as your build

cheers Dumaniac

I definitly like this project.

I still have two Airfix He177 and two Revell He 177 here around and wanted to build something similar, but now I think I put this a bit back, to see this coll project coming along.

Like the way you modified the hull to get it longer, plus the additional jet engines!
