And so onto my next and probable final build for this particular whif GB over on MMM.

And what extended WWII alternate history GB could be without an.....

AMERIKA BOMBER entry.....



Loosely based on the Heinkel He 277 design you will note the Me 262 kit sitting on top. My plan is for a bomber using the old SAC saying, (although slightly changed in this case), `4 turning, 2 burning`.

The last couple of builds have not had my usual WIP, but I felt in this case input from you guys on how to proceed or come up with ideas that I have not would be benificial.

So over to you.

Im a big fan of luft 46 stuff Im gonna start a new thread soon to display my creations. managed to pick up a revell JU290 for 15 quid that's a lot of kit for that price, I plan to do a amerika bomber with that but due to the size of it its gonna be a long project. I've also done the E555  in "manhantten raid" guise, I was goin to give  that RATOG and towed fuel tanks the Germans were developing to give in the range

Looking forward to seeing the finished article mate

With two He-177 kits you could have some IMMENSE wings! 

But you'll need a socking great shelf to display it..........

The He 177 A-7 had longer span outer panels, if that helps?

Sure I've a pair of 277 conversions somewhere for the old Airfix kit.  Actually, it's 3 - one's by Antares for the Revell kit as I found it a few days back.  And they did an He 274 too.

Using two He 177 fuselages and 5 sets of engines you'd get 10 turning (2 engines per nacelle) and 2 burning.  Just add a Me 262 on top for self defence or an Arado 234 for an attack?



Or sweep the wings and add a couple of jet engines?

Slightly hi-jacking the thread, what's that aircraft on top of the He-177 please? Amazingly I have a resin kit of that and I've NEVER been able to work out what it is! I don't have a -177 but that can be easily remedied and they'd make a great pairing!

Its not an He 177, but the high altitude development, the He 274, with a longer span wing and four engines. Two prototypes were built in France and they used them post war.

No conversion for it but Antares do a complete resin kit.  Mine cost £70 in 2010.

The piggy back aircraft is IIRC the a scale model of Sud-Ouest SO 4000 used for tests.  The AAS-01 with glider SO-4000 and a full size SO-4000 is shown below:

Ahah, many thanks. I did a bit of Googling with both of your stuff and came up with LOADS of piccies of both of them.

I reckon converting a -177 to a -274 may just about be on, uisng a similar technique that tc2324's using  on his original here.

The wing is completely different to that of a 177 and you'll need a pair of He 219s for the engines, one of which also gives you the undercarriage and inner nacelles.

You might want to look for a copy of 'Luftwaffe Over America' by Manfred Griehl and published by Barnes & Noble.  ISBN-10 0-7607-8697-6.  The book is available at Amazon.

The book goes into German plans for the bombing of the United States during WWII. 

There are a couple of pictures of the He 274 V-1 (AAS.01) in the book.  The book has drawings and pictures of a number of long range German bombers.  It goes into the history of the effort, and the reasoning of why Germany wished to attack the USA by air.

What are the engines on that AAS-01?  They look nothing like I've seen on other German birds.  Did the French re-engine theirs?

Good to know Wooksta, but may be a bit beyond my modelling skills and more importantly budget.    I need to work with what I`ve got on this one. Any advice welcome.

Think you may be right there Kit, although it will probably be a hybrid of both designs. Extend the wings and fuselage sections me thinks.

And so with that in mind, the interesting, albeit slightly tedious task of measuring up starts.....
