Quote from: PR19_Kit on October 29, 2024, 02:28:49 PMBut no matter what you do with the clock, there's still only the SAME amount of daylight!

Yes, but when they go back more of that daylight is in the morning which was deemed better for factory workers and is now deemed better/safer for kids going to school.

As I've said it's never really bothered me other than when in my late teens and I found myself getting home after a Saturday night out and mum was scowling at me and cooking breakfast   We also once tried to persuade a bar manager that the clocks went back at 2-00am which meant it was therefore 1:00am and we still had another hour at the bar

There was also Double British Summer Time in 1940 and 1947 when the clocks went forward 2 hours compared to GMT. It was a way of saving fuel and maximising natural light benefits.

And if you really want to know the history  ;)

Gondor

This time next week I will be looking forward to driving to Telford in the morning. I still have quite a bit of work to do on at least two models.

On the home front, last week I made a mistake when buying some food, more of that later. When I got home from work today, Spot was around to greet me and rubbed up against me demanding attention, I think he missed me. A bit later he tried to jump onto the shorter bookcase in the hall. It's shorter than the rest as it has to fit under a light switch. However, when he jumped onto the top he dislodged a whole load of magazines and papers that I had been storing on top of it. He was then wanting to go outside but I would have none of that as I had prepared the top of a wardrobe for him using a blanket that he used to sleep on as a pad. I had to pick him up and push him onto the top of the wardrobe where he spent several minutes sniffing at the blanket before going into clean mode prior to entering sleep mode. So success! One happy cat and one happy human as the can is not demanding the computer chair to sleep on! Now, back to the mistake with the food purchase. I had bought frying chips rather than oven chips  :banghead:  and tonight I forgot to have the extractor fan on while the deep fat fryer was heating up. Consequently, the smoke detectors went nuts  :banghead:  Spot, although woken up was not particularly bothered by all the noise. I think that might be because when he stays at a neighbours he hears the smoke detector quite a bit as she is getting on a bit and forgets she has something cooking.  :-\  I am bound to know when he wants to go out tonight as he will be jumping onto the bed from the top of the wardrobe, thankfully no onto the side that I sleep on.
