They actually got one set of wheels wrong anyway, and that carried over to the Brassin resin ones also.  The 3 spoke hubs are larger and they got that bit correct, but the tyres are also larger too.  Airfix gave both 3 and 4 spoke hub wheels in their 72nd PR19, and the former are definitely larger.  Not much, but the eye can see it.

That's an access panel to (depending on source) the wing tanks, boundary layer control system SPS and/or the aileron booster BU-45. That's not all, though. Some panels and panel lines on the belly are different, too. And I think the tail pipes are different between the two versions (notched part bigger on one version).
It might have made more sense for Eduard to not call them "interceptor" and "fighter-bomber", but rather "Moscow-production" (fighter-bomber boxing) and "Gorky-production" (interceptor boxing). Either "version" could be equipped and used as interceptors or fighter-bombers. There's no technical reason a fighter-bomber couldn't be employed as an interceptor or vice versa. AFAIK, Eduard only calls the Gorky-built MFs "interceptors" because those of the Gorky-built examples delivered to the Czechoslovak AF were purely used as interceptors in Czechoslovak service. Because the Gorky-built MFs were built pretty late (production had already switched to the more advanced and internally different and essentially all-new MiG-21bis), they use wings of the MiG-21bis. These no longer had that access panel on the wing.
I suppose the wing access panel might be puttied for the other version, but the access panels and panels lines on the belly would be much harder to correct. So Eduard made it simpler for the modeller and more difficult/expensive* for them by giving us two kits. Is this overkill for a 1/72 model? Maybe. But, really, ... so what? Those that care about these details will be happy and those that don't, well, won't care anyway. Everybody happy!  And it means we might see a MiG-21bis from Eduard some nice day. 

Thank's for the info about the production differences being by factory. As soon as I read that I remembered seeing a post or article somewhere about the Moscow and Gorky production versions though I thought the level of detail the builder was going into was excessive for me.
Eduard do have planed, according to Scalemates, both a MiG-21 bis and a MiG-21 R. I would not be supprised if at some point if they produced an SMT variant as well.

Things also help if I read the blurb on the front of the instruction booklet which says which kit is from which factory, how many were produced and through which dates so I stand a chance of using the correct airframe for building a Lancer, building a Bison will wait untill after the bis version comes out.

Not often I quote myself but as it's the aforementioned Tuesday and work was slower than a slow thing I took the afternoon off. Got home to find a couple of items had been delivered, the first a modification for the car to replace the 12V socket (Lighter Socket for those that remember them) as trying to charge my MP3 player is just not happening with the currant adaptor so I thought I would get it replaced with a dedicated dual USB socket, much simpler.
The other item was a very odd looking clear /blue envelope from the Royal Mail which enclosed a very sad looking item of post. The clear/blue envelope was printed with a message apologising for the condition of the enclosed item which looked as if it had gotten wet and nearly shredded. Thankfully the important part of the information inside was good as it was the date for my second Covid Jab, mid morning which means another day off work.

Not much done for the last couple of days due to my being really tired and then spending most of yesterday waiting on a delivery of paint and flooring for the sheltered housing cottage that my intended's mother will be moving into. Being a council run place they of course stripped almost everything out ans made a shoddy job of fitting the things they replaced. The delivery also turned up near the end of the time slot we were given, half past two so once that was in she and I returned to my place to spend some time watching Star Trek, the reboot film which I hate the enginering department scenes due to the concrete floors and I beam structures.
So painting and decorating is going to be taking over part of my life and the modelling will have to take a back seat unfortunately. I will try to keep up but it depends on how much other interests such as good, sleep, work and YouTube and Oglaf demand of my time.
Good news on a more personal level is that I get my second Covid jab late Tuesday morning

Painting the cockpit of the F/A-45 Goshawk at the moment and working out how to shoehorn in an M-61 into the fuselage as well at the moment.
