Here you see my "Falke" together with my competitors in the 1:72-scale-section; a FW 190 D and a Spitfire (Reconnaissance).

Strangely the jury had only given a bronze-medal to the FW and a silver-medal to the Spitfire.
No gold-medal...!?

I don't mind... it was my first exhibition and my first contest and the most important thing was to have fun and to moan "ooh" and "aah" by viewing such a mass of good models and dioramas.
If someone is interested in viewing my photographs of the event; here is the link to my Dropbox-file: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/09inwmdp3xo1zc4/5ejuPkYIKc

Your problem is obvious......you should have mounted the Falke on a wooden base about 1/2 inch taller than the Spitfires, therefore securing yourself the Gold !

I have to agree with Capt.C ,at least in principle, you should have used a base of some sort. It needn't be much as you can see. I prefer to use a simple grass or tarmac one. I've always felt it gave "life" to the model by displaying it in a "real" world setting. The base also focuses attention to the model,as you can see from your competitors. If you plan to enter more contests, you should consider making up a few just for contest display. I used to mount all my models on bases,at least until I ran out of space .... !!!! That's why I suggest only making a set for contests.  If you want some advice on making bases HMU and I will tell you how.

Thx Capt. Canada and Father Ennis for your kind replies... but I know, my model isn't at a top level.
No ageing, no chipping, no weathering, with visible marks of sand-paper and no open gun-tubes (the gun-tubes are made of pieces of paperclips) and muuuch more.
Same to the canopy; it is "milky" because it is taken from a reeeal ooold P-51-D-Mustang-kit, contaminated by glue... and it was broken.
2 days before the competition unfortunately the tube of the nose-gun was snapped off and I wasn't able to fix it again in a 100 percent position, so I now have a real tiny but visible offset in the tube.
Maybe a base and especially a higher base would have helped to win a medal... size matters.

P.S. @ Father Ennis:
I know a bit about woodcrafting but I'm allways curious about new experiences. So, if you like to give me some help, I have open eyes and ears for you.

Btw: what the f*** means "HMU"?

Just tell 'em the canopy is frosted because the pilot was sweating profusely trying to handle the beast....and the defroster wasn't working properly....

Whatever.

When I want a base for a 1/72 build I find an appropriate runway or water texture picture on the interweb and print it out on a piece of A4 paper onto which I sit the model.

This is good..You know what you can improve on (sometimes getting people to recognise where they need improvement is a struggle) so there's no stopping you now.  Gold next time...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
