Somebody I work with maintains that trying to catch anything that drops off the table with your knees is a sign you are a girl.

Guys invariably try and catch things falling between their legs by clamping their legs together, maximising the area presented to the falling object. Girls, on the other hand, do the opposite, spreading their knees wide and thus spreading their skirt to produce an even larger catching area.

Having said that I'm not sure if that obtains these days when very few girls actually wear skirts, most wear trousers these days.

That'd make an interesting test actually, to see if such behaviour is inherent in gender or if it's learned during life. I suspect the latter, and that modern girls would do the 'knees clasp' when trying to catch something.

I did that knee clasp a couple of times in the mid 80's, ended up with a knife blade in my leg on the second attempt! Only after impaling myself did I set the knife on the table in a different direction so that the slight slope didn't cause the knife to roll off the table.
