The black Pearl from the disney movies in 1/72 scale using the zvezda kit

here is the placstic from the box

now it has a few small problems if you wish to build the movie ship

Scratch-build bulkhead to match ship from 2nd movie
-Scratch-build stairways to match 2nd movie
-add steps to all kit stairs to be more in scale
-no cannons under stairs (next to bulkhead) They are not in the movie.
-Scratch-build new base/stand for wheel to match 2nd movie
-Scratch-build grate underneath wheel
-change 4-post belfry to a 2-post belfry to match 2nd movie
-Scratch-build bell and bell mount for belfry
-change skylight (it should be an "A" like a roof, not flat)
-Cut Three stern supports to match 2nd movie.
-Scratch-build hand rope handrails around hull to match 2nd movie.
-Move Bow Fiferail to the railing behind Mast to match the 2nd movie.
-Scratch-build rope handrails for steps leading below deck.
-Add rope railing to the port/starboard stairs leading to the bow to match 2nd movie.
-Mount ship in water-base diorama, representing heavy seas.
-Weather (Dye) all rigging to match 2nd movie (greyish/tone)

All scratchbuilds are relatively easy except for the Bulkhead and stairways.
For the bulkhead here's what I did ok this before shot is from another website as i forgot to take a before shot

and my scratch built one

Just a small modification then?  ;D

Ship kits of that ilk are WELL above my skill rating, far too fiddly, but I'm well impressed with your workmanship.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

-Scratch-build grate underneath wheel

bit of a background to the ship for those who dont know her

The Black Pearl, originally Wicked Wench, is a fictional ship in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.. The ship was originally named Wicked Wench before she was ordered burned and sunk by Lord Beckett. It was later raised from the sea floor by Davy Jones after making a pact with Jack Sparrow who rechristened her the Black Pearl, because of her now black look due to the charing of the wood.
She is said to be "nigh uncatchable".
Indeed, in the three films she either overtakes or flees all other ships, including HMS Interceptor regarded as the fastest ship in the Caribbean and the Flying Dutchman which is actually faster against the wind.
Her speed is derived from the large amount of sails she carries and her fine hull shape. She is noted in At World's End as being "The only ship that can outrun the Flying Dutchman."

OK now started on the ships boat, which according to a few ship model builders websites is one of the best out their. it also give me a chance to experiment on the weathering of various parts

the inner hull before i place the top boards

the lower hull

the upper works

it looks a lot less green in real life
and the cabin bulckhead and the quater deck gets their first coat of tar black paint before weathering

lot more work done as I forgot to recharge the battery for the camera so lot of the work has gone undocumented such as in staling a lighting system for the cabin, the lower gun deck , the forward mess and the 3 Stern lights, using lights from model railways.

lifeboat finished, well almost just a few bit of rope etc to make it come alive when its in position still to be put on

and the hull of the ship put together

the fit is very good for such a large kit, only a few small places will require any filling .

Steel Penguin

looking very good there Lenny.
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

Very impressive !!!  I really can't wait to see more. One question, is the ships wheel facing the wrong way ?  I would have thought that the man steering would stand behind the wheel not to the side.  It's been too long since I saw the movie !

Joe C-P

Beside the wheel, generally, though there were shots with characters behind.

Keep up the good work! I built the old glow-in-the-dark ship from Lindberg many moons ago, and enjoyed it. Have fun!
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

lenny100

the ship wheel did move between the movies, in part one it also in some shots  its behind or infront the aft mast also, but for the second and third movies they built a new ship and thats the one i am building,

more work on the main hull today

the figurehead and the bowsprit still to make the "heads" as they are missing on this kit, the rigging still need a bit of weathering

weathering the main deck, the white bits are where the cannons will be

the rear lights and yes there is a bulb in each one
