Lockheed 12-A, one of three fitted with temporary tricycle gear for the USN.

Designated XJO-3, the one in the photo was used for flight trials on the USS
Lexington in 1939.

Interesting, did it have a hook fitted too?

I notice it's retained the tailwheel. Would help if the pilots AoA was to great coming into land I suppose ?

thanks for the reference !

is it the load of the spat that makes it avoid tail-sitting?  ;)

Yes, that's very logical, and it looks good too.

All we have to work out now is where the wheels came from, so we can work out what's likely to appear with a socking great pair of floats next.  ;D

Odd. But very elegant in this configuration. I remember a tailsitter built by someone here some time ago, and it did not look very plausible - probably due to the raised tail? Could have been a long-range recce aircraft in real life?

NARSES2

I'm seeing that in Japanese colours perhaps with a couple of torpedoes ?

Seeing your pictures, I felt puzzled at first, not remembering a He-115 with (normal) tail-wheel.
I asked Google and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinkel_He_115 reminded me this was a floatplane in RW, and you turned it into a landplane all right!
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]
