I'm wondering what comes next in 'the chain', a swing wing KC-97?  :o :o

the K97 fuselage was used earlier with B707 wings (in yellow) ;
the F-111 swing wings still have to find a match ... stay tuned  ;)

invest heavily in donors.

I was lucky to find the KC97 for 20 EUR and the old Airfix F-111 for 10  ;)
quite less I guess than most finebuilt models with extras

Yup, that's the way to go. I'm looking for F-111's already, but the cheapest KC-97/B-29 I can find is well over €30. And, tbh, I have another wing donor in mind, one that most likely won't come cheaper.
But no one's given up yet!  ;)

That's probably the best thing that COULD be done with the Airfix F-111!

I recall doing a review of that kit for Scale Models in the early 70s, and it was VERY difficult finding something positive to say about it. I think I centered on the fact the nose was more accurate than the competing Revell kit.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Now that is exceedingly beautiful, Eric. Your artistry blows me away - again. Already I must struggle not to drift into happyland and figure out its really rather long and involved backstory.

start it as a replacment for nasa  RB-57F Canberra

That's what I was thinking.  RF-111.

changing scale a bit

and I kept the wings in the original plastic color, because it would have been a pity to hide such a beautiful yellow

Uh, maybe for someone else, because if ever i buy 2 kits of Spitfire, I would prefer to build a twin-Spitfire or asymmetric Spitfire.
But this is almost serious: a biplane Hurricane has been projected, with a temporary upper wing, jettisobale (for extra fuel, if I remember well), this could be found probably on the site of secretProjects.
So: ericr's Bf-109 biplane is not crazy... ;D
