I imagine, in overload, a very very long run, 20 miles long before takeoff in the sky!
But, uh, landing precisely on the rails may be uneasy/unsafe, no?

the challenge is open to people better than me in backup stories of course 

I was thinking of something not involving flying, but just improving speed in wide flat plains,
by using the wings effect to be less heavy on the rails :
quite imaginary indeed , the relation to RW physics is thinning ...

That's a good definition. Some of your creations take me back to the 1960's with their overall "feel". They are certainly as much Art as they are Modelling
