That wing shape is most 'UN-Russian' to the eye, but the overall shape surely is Russian. Great modelling of an obscure type there Thomas.

Thank you, Kit, but it is not as un-russian as one might think. The original T-10, on which the Su-19 was more or less based, had a very elegant wing shape...

Oooh, I like that! Did they fly the T-10 with that wing shape? I've only ever seen side-on piccies of it.

Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

Here you have it in live action, flying:

Facinating vid that, thanks for posting Thomas.

Why didn't they continue with that ogival wing for the production aircraft though? It's interesting that the T-10 has two very large wing fences well inboard on the wing, and I'd always thought that ogival wings didn't need them because of their vortex producing capabilities.

I think it's the wing roots/LERX/BWB that actually gave the most benefit (esp. at high angles of attack), and which was taken over to the Su-27. The T-10 differed considerably from the Su-27 in overall configuration, and I think Sukhoi dropped the elegant wing tips in favor of missile rails. The basic wing shape is still there, though.
