1/72 Sea king AEW2 sept 1982
1/72 Nimrod AEW3

RAF E-2K envisaged as an 'off-the-shelf' solution to the UK AEW requirement in the early 70's. except of course with anything RAF its never quite off the shelf as the Naval kit was removed the wings fixed and an interesting flight refuelling solution used. Serial applied is from a suitable gap ZA744 as the selected solution used surplus Nimrod MPA aircraft. Chose the Hemp and light Aircraft grey scheme as more fitting for the period and so as not to clash with some schemes planned for other builds.

The Kit is the Hasegawa E-2C kit with the wing folds removed, a flight refuelling probe added from a surplus Lightning, and refuelling pod from a resin set.

A real aircraft that served the Royal Navy as a stop gap in the AEW role, the Douglas Skyraider AEW1, just to set the tone alongside the proper project that either never served in place of them or as replacements for them.

Kit is the Hasegawa AD-6 Skyraider with the Aeroclub Conversion and dcals from the Model Alliance HMS Ark Royal sheet

Love the look of the E-2K. Looks good in hemp. The probe and drogue systems are a nice touch as well.

Always liked the AEW Skyradier as well. Looks awesome !

PS-looking forward to seeing the Gannett as well. I want to build one from the Trump Gannetts in my stash. That's one aeroplane that just looks right to me.

I'm assuming you'll be wanting to borrow 'Dougal'?

E-2K looks great Geoff.  Like the choice of hemp, sets it apart from other Hawkeyes.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Cheers, Adrians CGI art work shows it in the Grey scheme in Battleflight, but given the timeframe i opted for a more early 80's Hemp as per the Nimrod AEW3. I was temped by the DG/DSG over LAG scheme that it probably would have sported in the late 70's but want to keep that scheme for the 'Toucan' AEW Andover as thats been represented in that scheme.

That depends on the reference's need to check with Chris on what the AEW Lancaster actually entailed, so will have to read the relevant chapter in Air Staff tonight.
