As Gondor has listed which projects he will be doing for the Project Cancelled SIG theme i thought i should start a thread of those builds currently projected or planned to be completed for the SIG display.

Helps to remind us what's in build, what's been promissed, where their are gaps and to pull our fingers out and get some key builds completed before we run out of time !!!.

Ok my current or planned AEW builds are :-

1/72 E-2K Hawkeye (RAF) - Currently just out the paint booth so should be decalled and completed
1/72 H.S.768(ii) - In build at the moment based on a seriously cut down Airfix F-27
1/72 Andover AEW - Ready to start once the Hawkeye clears the bench, based on cut down YS-11 with Nimrod AEW nose and tail
1/72 HS-768(i) - Earlier version similar to Grumman Tracer using the ID HS-748 Vacform.

I think these may well keep me busy right upto SMW.

I still have my BAC Type 583 to finish off and assemble so that might be light relief from the AEW types when the building phase kicks in again once the E-2K is completed (PSR and drying paint or varnish are not a good combination !).

McColm - These build are for the Project Cancelled SIG members display at SMW this November, they are all genuine projects as documented by the recent Chris Gibson books. If it's only inspired your imagination then its a What-if then they fall under the What-If realm if its for the SIG's display at SMW then let Martin H know otherwise they should be posted in the Current Build section of the forum.

This section is the the Project Cancelled SIG to discuss which projects they are working on for the show, so we know whats done, whats being done, what to expect so as to determine the best form of layout and finally to identify if theire are any obvious gaps in the display which can be filled by models borrowed from elsewhere or by using the books and artwork to complete the storyline.

Perhaps Thorvic would be kind enough to move my Four for Telford thread into the same area as this thread is?

well ive done the Bristol type 192 AEW already. Next up is a warning star. And if my luck and mojo holds out I may just give the AEW Herc a go (the one with the nimrod fore and aft domes.)

Started to bolt the Said Warning star together tonight. OOB as far as the build goes, Paint job will be as per the Shackleton around the early 1970s

That should look the part Martin

Having a look at the YS-11 to make the AEW Andover at the moment, have made a start by putting epoxy putty into the inner wing roots as going to need to shorten the fuselage fore and aft of the wing and the resulting wing root flare will need to be toned down and blended back into the fuselage. Also used the rest of the putty on the F-27 thats going to become the small 768.

I'm planning an AEW Vulcan based around the pic published in Battle Flight.

The pic is stated as 'provisional' and I'm going to have to put the radome back a little as in it's illustrated position it'll foul the forward landing gear.  A few more 'embelishments' will be required, such as relocating the cooling intakes on the engines, probably some small lumps and bumps appropriate to an AEW aircraft.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Got the Basics together on the Avro 768ii finally for a check on size and shape. Tail is not yet fixed or attached as they still ned to be scribed.

A seriously butchered Airfix F-27 Fokker Friendship  :banghead:

The poor F-27 never saw it coming.....  That is some serious surgery!

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Now why do i get the mental image of a diorama with Land Rovers and Lorries with a fishing line going up to a pair of balloons up in the rafters of the SMW Hall. We'll have to go to the balcony to photograph them !!! :o.

Seriously though a pair of barrage balloons sound an interesting build, does anybody do them as vacforms ?
