I still think that scheme would look sooooo much better on a TSR2.

Thank you all for your comments and I`m glad this scheme has gone down well with you all.

Unsurprisingly I`m still awaiting a phone call from AOC RAF to discuss my future commissioning for the 75th anniversary......

you could always send the photos to 617's public relations officer.
I always hope for the best.

Did you ever consider the reverse of this scheme - a grey Tornado 'escaping' from a WW2 Lancaster scheme?

That's got me thinking about my next profile.

Excellent!

I wonder what kind of weapon a Tornado would use against a dam  ;D

Actually, none.  The UKHas ratified Protocol 1 to the Geneva Convention in 1977; article 56 made it a war crime to destroy 'Works and installations containing dangerous forces' including dykes, dams and nuclear power stations.  You can attack them to sizer them and you can attack them in ways which do not threaten to release the dangerous forces eg bombing hydro electric facilities at a dam.

This one always causes a bit of a stir during Law of Armed Conflict lectures.....

Yes, I can just see THAT being obeyed to the letter in a large conflict!

[sarcasm mode off]
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Agreed!  "Honest, guv, we were aiming for the electrical switchgear and just happened to hit the reactor core / main sluice gates /  dam wall by accident"

One of the first things to consider was which way round I wanted it, so yes. Thing was I wanted the WW2 roundels and codes to be seen and that would not of worked if the back half was black. Also with the `grey` peeling away to reveal the green/brown it seemed right that it would start at the front. I`m pretty sure on another aircraft type, say a 617 Sqn Canberra, the black back half would have worked easily.
