One of the first things to consider was which way round I wanted it, so yes. Thing was I wanted the WW2 roundels and codes to be seen and that would not of worked if the back half was black. Also with the `grey` peeling away to reveal the green/brown it seemed right that it would start at the front. I`m pretty sure on another aircraft type, say a 617 Sqn Canberra, the black back half would have worked easily.

Good point about the roundels, etc.

Amd heres the offical release :-

http://www.airfix.com/airfix-products/aircraft/a73008-panavia-tornado-gr4-617-squadron-172-a73008/

Except when you look into it they don't actually have them in stock just now.  :banghead:

It looks like another 'limited edition' as it's only available on-line.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Bit of an anti-climax in contrast to TC's

Rather boring.  Obviously who ever approved that one had little imagination...

Such is the official mind...

You don't want a diagram explaining the raid on the fin, you want something that evokes the spirit of the raid and the official one definitely doesn't do that...   :banghead:

The diagram is the squadron badge, but I agree, it doesn't evoke much emotion.  Unfortunately a lot of RAF special schemes tend to be quite bland and restricted to the tail.  I remember reading there's a rule about only 25% of the aircraft being allowed to be repainted, mostly I think due to red-tape about airframe weight but also about time and cost.  It doesn't seem to apply to aircraft being retired or the Tucano display aircraft.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Just had a nice email from OC 617 Sqn complimenting the model.

No mention if they were going to require my services in the future though....

Well that's nice of him
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
