Brake fluid is VERY aggressive. Even styrene becomes rather brittle after a thorough bath.

Depends on how long you have to leave the parts soaking.
If the paints not too stubborn then the brake fluid will remove it before embrittling the plastic.

You can always use a combination of the two (one after the other - not mixing them).
If stripping chrome I often use caustic soda to remove the metal and then brake fluid to remove the underlying lacquer.
