On the one hand - you star Colin: that was was crying out to be done!

On the other hand - bugger, I'm going to need yet another Minicraft C-97 now.... ;)

I like Watchman as a name: visions of it with first-Silk-Spectre pinup art as per the B-29 in the opening credits of the film.... ;)

Why not the name of a god?  Heimdallr, the Norse god who guarded Bifrost, the rainbow bridge to Valhalla had the power of prescience (seeing the future).  Or is that too esoteric?

Aside 2 - Does anyone know of a book/article/site that explains RAF/FAA naming methodology ? On the odd occasion I think I've cracked it and then a name crops up which completely invalidates my theory  :banghead:

There was a policy in the 30s/40s for bombers and transports to be named after cities.  Flying boats sneak in too.  The Canberra was probably the last of that breed.

V-bombers had, well, a V theme.  'Sperrin' didn't make the cut of course - don't believe a word about it's performance, it was just a rubbish name!

FAA renaming of US aircraft in WW2 using 'angry fish' (Tarpon, anyone?) or 'angry seabird' names

Others I think it was just a case of something suitably aggressive for fighters proosed by the manufacturers. Lots of alliteration, of course.

I too would vote for Stratoguardian. But then, I only do 1:72, so I don't have a cock in this fight....
All hail 1:72!

Yup and then you get the HP Hampden. Now Hampden is a country house in Bucks (and a football stadium in Florida ! Glasgow) and the aircraft was christened by Viscountess Hampden. Not quite a town or city ? I think my main problem is that names I choose just don't sound right to my ear. Others choose them no problem. So it's something in my brain,  :banghead: Mind you Tarpon as you allude doesn't gel anywhere.

Apologies Colin for dragging this off track

Don't worry Chris, not really off track.

I now tend to agree more on the place name in the US and UK, checked it out on wikipedia and there are litterally hundreds to choose from!

Doing a Zwilling and calling it Jane Mansfield ?

I think that if you go back to reply #6, Colin says it's based on one of the prototypes, which was based on the B-29.  So I think a name begining with "Super----" would be better ---- just to throw a wrench into the works ---  ;D

I like that idea, you would need a couple of small weather radars on the noses, however that is not what I am planning.
My plan is to do the prototype with B-29 engines and fin, and a production example with B-50 engines and fin.
