IMAM Ro 57 of the Royal Hungarian AF operating over the southern Russian steppes in 1942.

The Royal Hungarian AF had long been a user of Italian designed and built aircraft and in 1941 took delivery of 50 new build Ro 57's intending to use them in the interceptor role. Experience over the USSR soon revealed that the aircraft was not well enough armed for the role envisaged (2 x 12.7mm mgs) and so they were soon relegated to armed reconnaissance. This particular aircraft had been adapted to carry a single 250kg bomb and was used for low level strike missions as well as reconnaissance. Although not really suitable for modern, warfare conditions on the southern sector of the Russian Front enabled the Ro 57 to serve well beyond it's expected life span.

Kit is by Czech Master and again is one of the early ones with not that many parts. Paints are from the Lifecolor Italian Fighters set and markings are from the spares box. The bomb and rack are, I think, from an Airfix Me 109

Nice idea. I could imagine that some DB V12 engines would suit the aircraft well, too?

Yes very much so. I've got the Special Hobby kit in the stash, which is way, way more complicated. Not sure what I'll do with her
