I have been thinking of selling some of my built models...until I saw the cost of sending a  medium sized parcel ...like £5.20 for up to 1kg !!
If I were to factor in costs then we are talking £6.50. If it over 1kg then it is £8.00....

I would specify 'buyer collects', lest your models be kindly returned to unbuilt condition by the sorting office - for no extra charge!!!

Yup the new rates are extortionate. It's the new size restrictions that are the problem. Most single kits will squeeze into the small parcel category but 2  :banghead: :banghead:

The whole point of this is to kill off whatever affection the public has for the Royal Mail, leading to it's inevitable break up and privatisation.

It could be saved, but that's not what the management either want or were put in place to do.

That's a fair assesment of an unfair situation.  Not exactly helping UK growth either, is it?

It might be a reflection of rising costs.  I've noticed a worldwide increase in postage costs this year.  Even China Post is charging more.   For overseas mail, the rising cost of air freight must be part of the cost.   I suspect its a trend we aren't going to see reverse.   :banghead:

As someone who lives across the water, and who buys quite a bit from the UK, due to the limited
availability of certain kits here in Ireland, my purchasing power has now become very limited!
Plus, certain retailer's have a minimum spend of £20 for overseas, before postage, and the trend
by manufacturers of sticking kits in oversize boxes is making it an expensive hobby.

It might be a reflection of rising costs.

More like a reflection of rising GREED on the part of the finance people who run these operations. Of course they'll SAY that it's rising costs but they'd be lieing.

I guess you haven't noticed the rising cost of everything else.
That just proves that there are greedy folk in lots of other places too, all just driving up 'costs', to maximise their profits - look at the ongoing investigation into petrol price fixing as an example...

Anything BUT!

But many of those 'costs', as Deathjester says, are disguised greed, and the only people who DON'T have the ability to increase our charges are us, the end users.

Yes, what they do is increase the prices by what they think the market will stand, NOT by what the items / services actually cost.  It's profiteering, no more, no less.  As another example, British Gas, had to raise prices, as their costs had gone up, but still, somehow(!), made a record profit last year...
