What about the Lancastrain's nose Chris ..would something like that work or is it to pointy ?

Ya could make what I call a starting plate ...I just trace the shape of the fuselage onto a chunk of styrene sheet and cut that out and build the nose from there 😀
I cut another plate with the shape of the nose and glue that to the centre on the starting plate ...having a good supply of scrap styrene makes this task pretty good cause ill just build the nose out of pieces of scrap and keep gluing until it fills most gaps or all gaps and them cut away the plastic to get the shape ..then it's PSR time matey 👍 😀

I have done similar to what you have described  before,  and used the method when turning piston aircraft into turbo props. Lots of putty gets involved too.

Ohhh so much putty some times..the horror 😆
Ive made noses before from solid putty and automotive plastic putty or bog as it's more commonly known...works a treat
