I haven't seen a real junkyard for years.
I think OH&S might have killed them off.
There are wreckers who will sell you pre loved parts but they don't let you go in and remove them yourself as far as I know.

While somewhat on the subject of the Hind. Anyone watch Firefly? They made one into a life-sized whif... I guess they may have bought or rented it from a prop house or possibly got it from a junkyard. *I'm the story is out there somewhere but I need to get to work. In the meantime, here it is:

Pic was from Imgur, person said his neighbor bought it.

*Happened across this that would appear to tell the story of it (I'll read it later):

I do remember that episode.  They were taking River to go one of the Core World hospitals so Simon could infiltrate it and scan her.

Yeah, apparently it's a small-scale (4/5? 7/10?) replica that was used for filming and junked - the fans did what the crew did in the episode and found it in a junkyard and rebuilt it.

hey, there's more of us out there that will go to those sort of lengths than I thought... :o ;D

I always wondered about that. I could tell from watching the episode that it was smaller than the real thing. I understand the budget constraints and why they went with this (rented, already built, far cheaper than building something new from scratch, etc) but I always thought it was hokey and kind of lame to be honest. I'm sittin there watching like, "Man they ain't foolin' nobody with that mess!"   ;D ;D ;D

But-but-but... you're supposed to focus on the Shiny! and the Sciffi!

And Kaylee and River and Inara, of course!

-and ignore any and all such Real Life/Logic Incursions. :o

Nah, doesn't work, does it?

My mad sister in-law refuses to watch Firefly because "cowboys in space is stupid and not realistic".
She has no problems with Farscape or Game of Thrones though.  Draw your own conclusions from that.
I need to rewatch Farscape because when I see Nathan Fillion on the TV now I don't think of a brave resistance fighter but of a  writer of detective novels or a weatherman.

Farscape was one that I thought I'd never get into because I tried to watch the first episode and gave up mid way through. I decided to try again though and stuck with it and fell in love pretty much instantly. I need to rewatch it, too. I've only seen each episode once and that was about 4 years ago. One of my favs was "1984" I think it was?? Where they all wind up in the 80's in Florida. Hilarious!!!!

Yeah, I shouldn't complain, they could have used a mini van with the wheels taken off and skids welded on or something.   ;D
