I've never heard of that Lone Star conversion before, is it still available?

:o I've spoken about it just a few weeks ago when i posted my F-16 stash and you've seen that, you even commented on it... These conversions have been spoken of by me and Leptiprince in quite a few occasions on the forum. LP has shown a few of his builds of the Lonestar XL...
Yes, they're still available, except for the two seater version, which is on a production pause(?)... The link for the shop is below, kit.

http://lonestars.web.fc2.com/SALES.htm

Yukio Kanezawa, the modeller who makes those, calls them conversion sets but they're almost a complete kit, you just need the small bits, landing gear, engine nozzle, intake and canopy. Fuselage is one piece with the wings, you just have to add landing gear, canopy, engine nozzle and a few other small bits.

It is a more recent brand, and Yukio doesn't sell in shops so i guess it's a bit harder to come across his products, even worse cause the Lonestar site has a very different name/address so, very hard to find it just googling. The Lonestar logo does look similar to Hasegawa's... Guess he's a big fan.  ;)

Re the Monogram XL, it's an old kit but it's a good one. I think it's good if you have the skills and want to improve the original kit but i think it can look good OOB.
If you get the Lonestar conversion set, it can only be built with the Hasegawa parts. The intake, like shown on the pic on the link above, is different in size when compared to Revell, Academy and Tamiya kits so, there will be unnecessary work if you use any other kit as a donor... But, if you ask me, i'd stop looking for a Monogram XL and save up for a Lonestar and Hasegawa combo cause it will cost probably the same as the Monogram will cost on ebay auctions... if you manage to win the bidding. You won't have to wait for one to come up with a good price, hope that no one else sees it or bids on it... too much hassle when you can just order one from Yukio direct though an email address on the site, and now it's even Paypal friendly.

It sucks to miss out like that, happened to me when i was bidding for the Italeri YF-23 Black Widow... i had the highest bid but forgot to put in a max bid so i'd cover any bids up to that limit... i was at home, had nothing planned so i could watch the auction's end closely and even be ready for last minute bids but got a call and was away from the computer for some 15 minutes, when i remembered the auction was about to end, got back on the PC and the auction had just ended 2 minutes ago... i lost that for just 1€ and it sold for 17€+12.50 for shipping... :banghead:

BLIMEY !  THAT'S where I remember seeing this thing before!! You had it in that glorious pile of F-16! I KNEW I had seen it before somewhere (other than again a couple days ago).    ;D ;D

That's hilarious.   ;D ;D

Anyway... damn good info there.. I think I'll give that a whirl. I've already 2-3 Hase A's in the stash so that part is covered.. I can just buy this thing and be good to go. I'll email ol' boy and ask him what shipping to BF, Oklahoma is and find out what ..... 7,000 Japanese monies is is in Ameri-Bux.  ;D  The parts don't look like they would whoop my butt either so I think I could handle it at my skill level. Score!  ;D

Yeah I'm fuming still over missing out on friggin $33 grand total Monogram kit. That was DUMB. I was distracted but I still should have remembered to come bid on it. I do this quite a bit, really.. I'll seem to check on and remember an auction all through it then forget all about it in the last hours/minutes.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

33$ was a good price, considering the rarity status the Monogram XL bears... but i think it was a sign. ;D
Look at it this way, you saved those 33$ for the Lonestar conversion, which is even better cause all the detail is engraved so if you wanna use washes and stuff, it's way better than the raised panel lines of the old Monogram kit.

It is a bit worrying, really... if it was someone else it would be no big deal, but me?!? Forgetting the XL kits in my stash... hope i haven't inadvertently found a cure/ for my Acute Falconittis... :o  :banghead:

You'll be fine with one of those resin XL kits, it looks pretty simple to build. Go for it!

I "came up" with this same idea a couple months ago so I was really pleased to see this and .......... it's magnificent!!!!

Found on the What if Modellers page.

"Hippie Huey, the Bell/Volkswagen CombiCopter
What if Abbie Hoffman was elected President of the USA in 1964, and hippies became the dominant force in American politics? Would we have seen this type of aircraft flying over the rice paddies of Vietnam, spraying LSD instead of Agent Orange onto the VC? After being chased by invisible dragons through the jungle, I'm sure "Charlie" would have surrendered after a few days, and the Hippies would have ended the Vietnam war by 1965!"

VERY good modelling there, and a hilarious idea anyway.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It is!!! This is one of my favorite things right now. I hope this dude takes this thing somewhere and wins some type of award for it. Well deserved I would say. I could offer a critique but I honestly can't say there's anything about this build that I don't like! So creative and well thought out... and well executed.

"Well I didn't expect it to turn out like that - when I tried the kit decals they were so brittle if you so much as looked at them they'd fall apart. So I raided what ever decals I had, soooo now this B-57G is now Japanese."

I'm glad his transfers were all jacked up .. . ...

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
