I built one last year.
Indeed not a very good kit.

Decals are worthless and the kit is very basic.

Not to mention the box art is atrocious.  ;D :o  I picked mine up with plans of trying to mix it with a box-scale F-101 voodoo to try and make some type of futuristic "Super Starfighter."  I didn't get very far....    It needs some more parts from.. somewhere..

"Here's my latest weathered aircraft. Shark Strafer in 1:72."

It's like a PBY-KA50 or something.  ;D

I like that.  I've got similar plans for the KA50 in my stash.

Nice. A boat hull would have made it a very nice flying boat?

That was my first thought too!

Found on the "Building Short Run Cottage-Industry Model Kits" page, by Frank Campey.

"Bf.109W, Finnish Air Force 1946.
This maritime version of the Bf.109 was proposed but never built.
It was to be used from German capital ships for defence and recce missions.
I finished the 1/72 A-Model kit as a "what-if" Finnish version had it gone into production."

I do like that, but can't help think it would have needed a larger fin/rudder ?

zenrat

I assume the water rudders would have been connected to the rudder pedals and would have had some turning effect when airbourne.
But yes, when floats are added to an existing design they often also have additional vertical tail area.

On the Spitfire, they added two, a large triangle dorsal fillet, and the extended fin/rudder below.

I like it, too, and also question directional stability in OOB condition. I'd also add a ventral fin, and/or enlarge the fin itself.
The A6M2-N (the Zero on floats) also had a ventral fin, as well as an enlarged rudder.

My first thoughts would be to give it a K sub-type fin/rudder, but it would probably still need a ventral fin.

By Pete Johnson, found on the Mediocre Modelers Group:

"My first photo on the board. This was my entry into Nat's. It got booted out of the in flight category because apparently you can't have hypothetical paint schemes in anything but the hypothetical category. Didn't win anything because frankly the model was a very mediocre model. Looked great from 3 feet away. So I am lobbying for a "3 foot" category
