Wait...Newt Gingrich isn't the name of a professor at Hogwarts...

:o

Nope...he's the former Speaker of the House who presided over the 2d impeachment hearing in American history...all over a hummer in the Oval Office, while he was divorcing his first wife because she had cancer.

Yeah, Newt's book has been sitting on my shelf because, honestly, I don't want to read him.  But Turtledove, now, he is a great person and great writer.

English is not his first language, obviosuly, and this is the first time I've seen "what if" described as "fake airframe" but hey, it works!! (He clarified in the comments is how I know... )

North American FJ-3 FURY (Fake airframe by FJ-4B)
BuNo.135964, E215, VF-61, USS Lake Champlain, June 1955.
Pilot : CDR D.R. FORD / LT. JG. E.G. MCLAUGHLIN
Model : Revell 1/72 04306-0389 FJ-4B FURY
Decal :CtA Jolly Rogers Timeline Part 1"

Original kit OOB is pretty neat by itself. I like the bird.

I DO like that, yes!

There's something extra special about the Furies compared to the Sabres, specially the FJ-4s with the extra height. I've got one of the ancient Emhar FJ-4s (in fact I can SEE it from here!) and I'll have a look at it later on. IIRC it's the same moulds as the Revell kit, isn't it?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Sounds right to me. I know it wasn't Emhar's own kit (I don't think they had any of their own stuff lol).  Almost had one once myself but it slipped through me fingers.

That all-blue livery suits the FJ-4 well, nice piece and find.

"A project I did a few years agor - The 'Cabra-Macho' (Tough Guy) - a mix between an Mig-29 and a Tomcat, plus pieces from other kits."

(Editors note: "Cabra-Macho" is different in Portuguese than Spanish. It was brought up in the 'comments' that "cabra" could mean "female goat" but in this case, it does not. )

Very nice, but how does it manoeuvre?  There only seems to be one main propulsion engine which would be OK if there were thrusters to orientate the craft  accordingly for burns, but...

I think the "Rule of Cool" covers any discrepancies with "Reality" in either of these builds. ;D

Both great concepts & constructs!

I also note that it seems someplace may be running low on beer.

I like the Cabra-Macho.  I have a spare MiG 29 body and have toyed with the idea of using it upside down.  This has more than a hint of the Buck Rogers starfighter about it.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Me too!  But why is it carrying a perfectly ordinary British Army vehicle registration number  (37 KG 87)?

That's one that had never occurred to me.... to flip something upside down. It works really well, though, obviously!
