looking at both prototypes int Cosford and Duxford, as well as the Airfix model, there is a protusion and then a set of "grooves" at the rear, between the engines.  Is this, or was it meant to be an arrestor hook housing? or something else?

No, it's something to do with the landing drag chute, but I can't quite remember what.

From Damiens book on th TSR  ( p161 upper photo) it says its the brake parachute anchor point and railing to hold the first bit of cable straight in sidewinds.

take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.

Cheers. So, next question.  Is it complete in this photo, or is there more to it, as the one at Duxford is the same, but i know neither airframe was complete when it was rescued, altho this one, Cosfords, was more so.

Steel Penguin

errr,  ( again from Damiens  excellent book on the TSR2   ill recommend it again )  p151 has a preassembly shot of the tail end heat shield  with the cover for the airbrake up and it looks as though theres a guard over it, but the pic on p113 has no guard.  my copy of the aerogude special on it  by A thornborough has 1 pic I can  see the are well on  on p 14-15 that seem to have no cover ( in that I can see the attachment  points o shaped mouth)

From my limited resources, i'd say brake chute housing and guidance housing to stop crosswind snagging.

Random TSR2 QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO'VE SEEN THE AIRFRAMES MORE RECENTLY THAN ME(1984)
What colour should the cockpit glass be?
Best guess would help

Thanks

yellow /gold, they were supposed to have a verrrrry thin gold layer in the mix to aid screen heating and to reduce radar cross section. it also gave something to shine the HUD onto.
I do mine in a mix of Tamiya clear yellow and orange. ( pic in the shots of cosford model show from a couple of years ago http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,28276.0.html  )  scary in that I thought is was more recent than 2010.

Taken at Duxford a couple of weeks ago.

Shows the windscreen is tinted too.

PR19_Kit

That looks good, they seem to have tarted '222 up a bit since I saw that windscreen last, it was looking a bit tatty back in '67 or so.

'222 was stripped back to the bare metal and totally restored a few years back.
