To keep up with current Soviet fighter design and to provide a rapid first response to bomber incursions, it was realised early into it's career that the Phantom was pretty much past it's sell by date.  What was needed was something with the carrying capacity and range of the Phantom, but the speed and agility of the Lightning.
Such an aircraft was on the drawing board at McDonnell Douglas, and great interest was shown by the MOD and RAF.
The first Eagle F.1s were delivered to 19 Sqn in mid 1977 and went on to have a long and useful career.
The only changes made to the aircraft were the uses of MB Mk10 seats and British built (much under license) avionics, including the standard fit ARI RWR on the fin top

So Sky Flash's instead of AIM-7's?

Eventually but probably would have entered service with Sparrows before they could be adapted to Sky Flash.

Again a nice build especially like the late 70s scheme with the camo rather than the usual ADF greys

Second that, suits the Eagle well. What colors did you use (manufacturer, product code/number)?

"Sky Flash should be carried" was also my first idea when I saw the Eagle. Would be a nice addition/detail.

Nice idea and execution

Now that's how to present an Eagle

Cracking good build and scheme.

Must get some pics of my South African one on here.
too old for a paper round, too young for me pensions, dammit, back to work then!

Dizzy,

Don't get too excited.
It's an old Monogram Boxing
No decals or instructions, tons of flash
and it's not that good a paint scheme.
I'll get up here once completed.

Thanks.  Paints are Vallejo model air dark sea grey, dark green and humbrol light aircraft grey

At this time it would have been equipped with Sparrows. Too early for Skyflash.

Very nice!  The colour sure do look good on an Eagle!
Cheers,

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
