i did remember this being proposed a few years ago, there was a GB planned but it never got off the ground.
after seeing footage from the Reno Air Races, and with Disney's new movie "Planes" coming out in a few weeks, i think it would be nice to revive this GB/TB idea, again

aside from the traditional tuned up/modified prop planes (bearcat, Sea Fury, P-51, T-6,...) Jets could also be right at home.
ive seen picture from Reno's Jet Category, there are some nice L-39's, L-29's and i especially love that pearlecent purple Fouga Magister and Blue Vampire .

other aircraft that could be perfect for Air Racing are the BAe Hawk (old and new), Alpha Jet, Hawker Hunter Tucano,....
on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

PR19_Kit

Even an Attacker, lots of fuselage space for decals etc.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Why not? I can already see the "Top Fuel" class with a F-105 in JPS Special markings...

Awww - I was just looking at that new Multi-Effects paint from Humbrol at the weekend and wondering what I could do with it. I didn't buy it in the end, but now you've gone and shown me a metallic purple Magister.....

This is the stuff I'm talking about: http://www.humbrol.com/shop/paints/spray-paints/multi-effect-sprays/

Competing, no doubt, with a Lightning in British Racing Green..........or Harrods logo!

Is that a Rear-Admiral's pennant on the Vampire?

British Telecom, alternatively?  ;)

In fact, I find the idea inspiring. I am currently working on something off of the usual whif business, and a race aircraft would be something I never did so far. Did some NASCAR race cars in 1:24, but that's all.

Well, you can count me in for this build. It'll be good to be challanged.

Question - What types are going to be included?  I 'd like to see all eras covered. ~~Piston turboprop, jets from 1st gen onwards. It would make for an interesting build I think.

Who says only fighters and jets can race?
Do waterplane races count?

Invent your own racing class.
Turboprops look like a great idea to me, for fast propeller planes. For less costly racing, something like a fixed landing gear class for stock Vedeneyev M14PF engines?

Spey_Phantom

i think everything can race, from the Wright brothers flyer to the F-35, no limits  ;D
shneider Trophy racer are more then welcome in my book

You could even have Avrocar racing straight out of the box with Fly's latest range:

;D

What else?

Autogyro racing?

Helicopter racing?

"Gunship" classes: Featuring (probably) all Hueycobras, a full-on racing Cobra might feature a de-restricted PT-6A Twinpack powerplant and 4-blade rotor taken from a Bell 412, a retractable nosewheel in place of the turret and ammo bays, and main gear that retracts into larger and cleaner stub wings...

"Cabin" classes: lots of souped-up A-109s and S-76s, with the odd Lynx when someone can get hold of one. Lower down, there might be an "affordable one-make category sponsored by Robinson... ;D

Personally, I'd say anything goes? I would not mind seeing an X Wing Fighter in race colors... maybe a Ferrari F1 in the far, far future, breaking two copyright issues at a time  ;)

If you're going to race X-wings, I'll take a TIE interceptor - they're faster and would look pretty good in racing colours I think. Those nicely cranked solaqr wing panels are ideal space for advertisers logos...

Soooo...
Anything goes, as long as it involves racing and spending a significant amount of time away from any planetary surfaces?

(Schneider races involved compulsory landings (or is it waterings?). Races that do involve some contact with land, water, etc. should be allowed too)

How's this for racing?

Anything hmmm.

SR-71 vs Concorde.  Course, the pylons would have to be well spaced...
