This is the first time that I have read this section. Here are the two racers that I already posted in the Aircraft section this year. They are:

Arado Ar.234 built as the "Green Hornet" Stock Reno Unlimited. Lindberg kit.

Lavochkin La.5FN with a P&W R-3350 built as the "Red Menace" Reno Unlimited racer. Cooperativa kit, FROG Gannet props, and scrap-box motor.

They could have a race where the slowest one wins...

My thoughts exactly!  ;D

Helicopters and Harriers are banned of course....
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

 :o

Would make a nice "service vehicle" to a Su-50/52, though...

Mossie

Make the circuit so tight that speed is a disadvantage?  Although I'm sure we can do better that, sweep the wings, stick a monster turboprop on the front, booster rockets???
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Is this TB open to totally custom builds?

This might give me the reason to finish this one.

Many of the most interesting real-world racer are /were totally custom builds...

Another thread revival, just in order to keep this idea on the radar for forthcoming voting lists. With some recent builds in this area seen, I'd modify the theme into something like "GOFASTA!" - not only including air race(r)s, but racing in general, speed record contenders or high speed variants of standard things? Could become braod and colorful!

Have there been races for steam locomotives, or is it a Steampunk idea?

Sort of, in the UK anyway, but not both of them running side by side.

The main lines to Scotland from London were always in competition with each other, but the two lines departed from different London stations and arrived at different cities in Scotland.

I remember reading about those races in the Victor or Hotspur or similar and always feeling sorry for the poor old fireman !
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

zenrat

How about this as a starting line up?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

;D They wouldn't get very far when the starting gun went.

That's taken outside the Locomotion Museum where my APT-E is these days, and those tracks only go for about 25 yrds before they all join into one!

That was the Great Gathering of all the existing A4 Pacifics in the world to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Mallard's world speed record, and they shipped one A4 in from the USA and one from Canada for the event, I was a truly magnificent affair.
