Phase one is now over with the model pretty much complete. Starting phase two which will be scratch building the carrier deck base tomorrow which will then be followed by phase 3 which is applying the parachute and rigging.

Moving onto the deck base I had seen a build which suggested using sand paper stuck down which would give a good effect. Inspired by this I armed myself with the following.....

.... and proceeded as planned.

Here`s the result....

Now it obviously didn`t work for me but then again I probably forgot something important from that thread all those years ago.

So on to Plan B.

Grabbed myself a brush and some Black Hammerite paint and eventually ended up with this.

Not perfect.., but it wil do. Now I`ll wait for it to dry and then add the markings.

1. Wash & thoroughly dry the board to remove all dust before use to provide a clean surface for the glue to stick to.
2. Prime the wood surface to provide a smooth surface for the glue to stick to.
3. Use a stronger glue.
4. All of the above.

I`ll have option 4 please Guy.  ;D

So today has been all about the US carrier dio base and I eventually ended up with this.

I think the end result is ok and will suffice.

God only knows where the hell I`m going to eventually display it???

Suggestion, donate it to the Gallagher Family, or the USS Abraham Lincoln, or to the US Navy Aviation Museum?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Keith`s already got one. I`ve been in contact with him just asking the odd question about the Intruder so I get a few things right that the pictures are unclear of.

If the US goverment want it, they can have it. (Perhaps an F-18 could pick me up and fly me out to the Abe for a presentation.... )

I think I`ve got the hang of this parachute stuff now. Don`t look too shabby even if I do say so myself.

Just got the drogue chute to go and this is done.

That 'chute looks TERRIFIC!

So what did you use and how did you do it?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

In short Kit, kitchen roll and PVA. Most examples I`ve seen on the net tell you to PVA the tissue/kitchen roll, shape it and then paint it. I thought it would look better if I painted the day glo stripes into the paper first. I then added some PVA and twisted it into shape. Pic below shows a couple of bits I practiced on.

The rest of the chute is just dried PVA`ed roll cut into shape.

I`m now calling this done, although I still need to order the Abe Lincoln decals. This by far has been my longest ever build, 8 months in total, although there was a 3 month gap inbetween.

So with no further ado....,
