Submarine Hull Numbers Query

Hey Guys, i was watching a Music Video on Youtube based on a Japanese Anime called 'Submarine 707', it Got me to Wondering if Any Navies Still use such a System Anymore? Reason I'm Asking is because I'm Considering Whether or Not to Use a Hull Number on my DSV Project. What Say You? thanks for Looking. Dan

There was once a time when Royal Navy submarines had their pennant numbers painted on the conning tower, but they no longer do so, preferring the appearance of threatening anonymity.

The USN used to as well, but as this photo of the Seawolf (from '07) shows, more likely no more.
