Does anyone know of a Halfords spray can colour that is a good match for RAF Interior Green ? Any other manufacturer easily available in the UK will do. As far as I know none of the model paint companies do it in a spray can ?

After painting this Wellesey it would be a boon

Without actually going to a Halfords that'd be difficult Chris. Their web site is USELESS for checking individual colours.  :banghead:

there is one that is a pretty good match, i recall using it overall for my Hawker P.1005, il try find the can when i get home. Halfords can provide specialist colours to suit to RAL/BS shades, might be worth a try for an elusive shade (altho most colours are avaliable in standard ranges with a bit of searching) :)

cheers, Joe

There's a medium green Fiat colour that I've used for model railway scenery before now, than matted it after.

The Kit Finder General has come up with a link for people who do custom spray colours. I'm going to give them a try.

I'll report back when I have anything to say. Thanks lads

It's probably the equivalent to RAL 6011, Resedagrün. Volkswagen used it on the Beetle, and even during the 70ies it prevailed - even today it is used on retro schemes... It's very close to the RAF cockpit Green, though (Humbrol 120/FS 34227 is close, too)

Right I ordered the custom spray can on line on Saturday and the guy phoned me up Monday because I'd made a bit of a boo-boo. Easily sorted and the paint duly arrived this morning

Tried it out and it looks a really good match to me, it should be as they match to BS Codes. As for cost well it's a 400ml can and that was £9.99 + £2 VAT. So works out a cheaper then Humbrol  and a tad more expensive then Halfords although they won't deliver.

The postage is a tad steep at £10 but that is City Link HOWEVER I got around that by ordering 2 tins and getting free postage. You can specify paint type and gloss level - I got matt.

Anyway they will match to most world standards so they are worth a look see.

Pricey but sounds good.

Yup as I said not as pricey as Humbrol if you get more then one can.

I'm thinking of getting some undersurface colours like Sky and MSG plus USN Sea Blue Gloss and PR Blue.

Ordered the Interior Grey Green and went for the Dark Admiralty Grey and Light Admiralty Grey for Cold War aircraft interiors and undercarriage legs. Be nice to get the interior of kits sprayed up without trying to get a decent matt brush finish and faffing with the airbrush should make prep and pre-assembly easier leaving time to get on with the detail work.

Might try external colours for the RN helicopters such as the RAF Blue/Grey of the ASW choppers and the British Olive Drab for Junglies as these are covered by Xtracolour and White Ensign enamel ranges.

Only sort of i had suggested Humbrol do the same on the Airfix facebook page when they asked for suggestions a couple of weeks ago as i had just sprayed the matt black in a new Airfix lancaster but was having fun getting the hu78 enamel paint to get a good matt coverage with a brush.

When you posted up the question i had a look on-line for a solution and found the one i PM'd you with, after your positive response i thought i would try them out too.  ;D

I read somewhere that early Land Rovers were painted that colour  as the Wilks brothers were able to buy huge war-surplus stocks of R A F "cockpit green" at a ludicrously low price.    Is there any truth in this?

Wouldn't surprise me. They only got permission to build the Land Rover because they were using loads of stuff that was readily available during post war austerity.
