They had some weird mag covers back then.
Where in the world are you finding these?

Kerick, you will find these mag covers on the link I put in the very first post:

http://www.frankwu.com/Paul-listing3.html

There are some real interesting ones.

I just didn't search the site far enough. Some of those covers are still weird.

More work.

Hull stretch with styrene. Still rough.  These are the aft turrets.  Rear hanger bay door open.

Detail work on the right rear track sponson.  External ribs as per the source picture.  Four barrette turrets on each track sponson, two forward, two aft- 3 inchers perhaps.   Putty still needs to be sanded off.  No gun tubes yet.

Lay up with the four track sponsons.  Determining position for the main conning tower.  Don't tell the Easter bunny I used one of his eggs.  ;)

No work for a few days- off to Baltimore for work.

Not a criticism but a suggestion.

Perhaps you should beef up the structure between your tracked components and the ship component. To me it looks a little flimsy to have the weight of the ship supported from it. I do realise that you are only part way through your build so it may be something you already have though of, but in case you haven't....

Who knows? :-\

Guess you'll just have to buy a copy & read the stories to find out (shouldn't cost more than a couple of grand, if you can find a collector willing to sell). ;)

Already tought that out, but thank you.  A very robust support will be under the hull.

Whew, finally got back to work on this, hate it when work interferes with WHIF!!

Cut down the bow a deck, and re-profiled the bulbous bow.  Main conning tower placed.

Model about done.  Still need to do the airwing.

Display base made.  Drywall compound over plywood. Painted to look like a European farming village.

Complete, Land Battleship USS CONSESTOGA on the western front.

With the fear of another European war on the horizon, several nations desired to build land battleships for action on the western front.  The USS CONESTOGA was layed down at the New York Naval shipyard in 1934 and first deployed to Europe in early 1937.

1/700 scale.  Hull is just under 12 inches long.
