"Sorry about your Village"  Land Battleship, 1934.

Anyone done this one before? In only have the cover off the net, so do not have the inner pages of the magazine.

What's not to like? airplanes, treaded armor and a big gun dreadnaught all rolled into one!

Inspired by the cover of the October 1934 Science and Mechanics.  A European Land Battleship.  Cover artwork by Frank Paul.

Kits: Main source will be the 1/700 scale USS Arizona, with lots of scratch styrene.

The inspiration.  October 1934 Science and Mechanics.  Credit: http://www.frankwu.com/Paul-listing3.html    Click and scroll down a bit for the cover.

Hobbyboss 1/700 USS ARIZONA

Hull stretch,  will add around 100 scale feet.

One of four tank treads taking shape.  Scratch styrene.

Hanger doors cut.  Mudflap/landing deck cut.  Those are some big mudflaps!  1/700 Aircraft to show scale.  Nationality and air wing TBD.

I'm sure this subject has been covered before , I took inspiration from the tin models of the twenties and thirties .Battle ships on wheels so they could be pulled a long the ground .
I went one step further and used the Revell 1/144 Lockheed Sea Shadow ,I added the skirt from the Airfix 1/144 Hovercraft kits Princess Margaret class. I extended the side panels of the Sea Shadow hull and raided my spares bin. My intention was to fit a helicopter landing pad a long the spine or Harrier pad. Toyed with a raised ski deck at some point .Two jet engines stuck at the rear for instead of the fan engines from the hovercraft kit
s .I thought of using the tail section from the Revell/Matchbox Victor kit for steering and brakes. Still in the unfinished state .
Brought another two Airfix hovercraft kits one built and the other unbuilt .

Will you square off the front (bow?0 and back (stern?) ends or leave them ship shaped?
How about some ramps for disembarking hundreds of troops for the mopping up operation?
Camouflage paint job would seem unnecessary.

I will do a little squaring off and cut down the bow a bit- no need to slice through the waves.

Agree on no need for camouflage- stealth does not seem to be of primary concern.

Thanks Guy, yes there are some real interesting works on that site.  I wonder what kind of horsepower the ocean liner would need to skim those waves  :o

A little more progress, off to bed.

Production line up and running for the track pods. You can see how they are made up.

I have seen a Char B1 hull (not certain if 1:72 or 1:35, long ago) combined with 1:350 or 1:600 ship turrets and details - that looked pretty impressive! Looking forward for this mechanisation of destruction!

More tread work.

Watch out! don't run over the Shermans or the deuce and 1/2's!

You have got to have the ramp unloading a battalion or two!

This is brillliant - I love it!  ;D

In the spirit of the ship names in Iain M.Banks' "Culture" novels, you should actually call it the "Sorry About Your Village".....
