ok, the general idea of this GB/TB is to build a model of either an aircraft, vehicle, armour or ship in the markings of a nation that does not exist anymore, but did in the past.

exsamples are Rhodesia, East Germany, Yugoslavia, Austro-Hungaria, Vichy France, Netherlands East-Indies....

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

Grand Dutchy of Finland:

"the predecessor state of modern Finland. It existed between 1809 and 1917 as an autonomous part of the Russian Empire and was ruled by the Russian Emperor as Grand Duke."

Thorvic

Nice idea i  like it

However a reminder should it go into action to keep the politcis out of it apart from the initial justificatioon for the build, as there are some obvious political hot potatoes such as Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, Colonies of America, Confederate America alongside the Union that other members could be sensitive about.
Try to focus on the build and keep the background history short and sweet just in case it triggers the wrong sort of reaction.

I like this idea and would contribute

but I agree with thorvic/Geoff we should stick to countries that have disappeared, have been swallowed up/ merged with others or have been changed

beyond recognition

so the venice republic and the confederacy would be in but Nazi Germany and japanese empire would be out

So a Hanseatic League commerce protection vessel, a Varangian Guard attack helicopter  or an armoured car of the Tartar Mongol Horde would be acceptable??

Radish already has a collection of Roman Empire builds.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Shouldn't this be qualified to mean a nation state that does not exist anymore, but did in the past and operated aircraft? That would rule out the Hanseatic league, Roman Empire, Mongol Hordes, etc (although the idea of a Mongol Air Horde does have have a rather barbaric appeal!).

Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and pre-Bangladesh seccession Pakistan, anyone??

And what if Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia were never annexed by the Soviet Union?  I foresee lots of Swedish aircraft being used by them in the 50s and 60, especially Estonia whch has strong political and commercial ties with Sweden.

The Vatican is a nation state, Kit, so you could do the Pogo but not for this GB/TB!

BUMP.

i have been thinking of proposing this GB, but then i remembered, havent i proposed this one before?
so, to refresh your memory, build a model of anything (vehicle, aircraft, ship,...) in service in a country that no longer exsists.
however, there would be some restrictions.

for example: Rhodesia, East-Germany, Roman Empire, Zanzibar, Vichi France, Belgian Congo, Zaire...would be allowed.
however, to make the playground safe and avoid controveries, certain historic hot topics such as Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, ...would not be allowed.

Old Wombat

A fair number of Soviet Russian equipment appears on this site anyway; & Nazi German too, for that matter.

I'd ban them because they're too bleedin' common, rather than controversial. ;)
