Howard of Effingham

sad day indeed.

the first a/c i ever flew in was a BA VC-10 from heathrow to bermuda in 1975 when i was um, younger...  ;D

but she has lasted well and i think has served the RAF very well indeed.

So this leaves the Vulcan as the last flying British 4 engine jet aircraft?

'558 is certainly the last  4 jet MILITARY British aircraft still flying, although 'military' could be a questionable adjective as she's actually civvie registered.

Is there not a Bae-146 flying with the Queen's Flight?

Not just Royal flight. There also the leased C-3 (aka Bae-146 200QC), its realy ment for trash hauling in and around the sand pit.

I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Even though they have 'RAF' on the side I'm not sure that any sort of 146 counts as a 'military jet'.

At least the Vickie Tens had additional stuff added for their military purposes, like socking great fuel tanks and hose reels etc.

I STILL don't think that counts............

It has to carry things under its wings and look fierce.  ;D

I guess that lets the Vickie Ten out then............... it's anything BUT fierce.  ;D

Are the 146's British? I thought they are built in Canada now?

The last '146 came off the production line in 2003, ending British airliner production, probably got all time.

By then they were calling it the 'Avro RJ' but it was pretty much the same airframe but with improved engines and a glass cockpit. There were plane to build '146s in Malaysia but they came to naught. AFAIK there never were plans to build it in Canada.

There used to be a whole bunch of them just parked at the south end of YYC (Calgary International) for quite a while, I seem to remember some airline that used to operate them went belly up or something.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Too bad they aren't built here...I think it would be a great candidate for the FWSAR competition ! But we all know that will go to the  Viking ( DHC ) Buffalo NG !
