I picked up a copy of the November /December 2013 JETS pages 76-81 has a article in the Bristol Brabazon  vs the Convair XC -99.
The stretched C-97 MR version which I am building  looks very similar to the XC-99 in shape and size  I will add the wings from a Airfix BAe Nimrod instead of the B-36 Peacemaker .As I don't have six Pratt &Whitney R-4360-41 Wasp Major 28-cylinder air cooled radial engines on my stash.

a comparison between a B-29 and a B-36, it would be the same with a XC-99 and C-97 (even stretched)

Love that shot. If only to go back in time and see them fly....wow.

McColm

There is a B-29 out in the states that flies at air shows .

Captain Canada

Been lucky enough to see the B-29 twice. Now, a B-36 ?

One of the advantages of being old.  ;D

I used to see B-36s flying right over my parent's house in the mid 50s. They'd be flying into Brize Norton on TDY and you'd hear them coming long before you caught sight of them!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

A double decker B-36, sounds good .I wonder if it would work on a B-52?

Wow....lucky you !

:tornado:

I think a B-52 would be too flimsy as a double decker. At least it would look that way to me.

I quite like the idea of a B-52-derived heavy strategic transport. Buff wings and empennage, but a big fat fuselage with nose and tail ramps (clamshell doors or hinge the whole nose.....?). Could be a nifty build, though I don't have the space for it...
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Will have to use one of the smaller scales for that build as the Monogram 1/72  G is getting the Martin P6M SeaMaster look .

Yes, saw it this year at an airshow in Yuma, and a couple of days later saw it flying --

Yup, every time I see that photo my mind just boggles.

The nearest I've got to seeing these things fly is in that old Jimmy Stewart film...Strategic Air Command ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

McColm

That was a good film.
An RC build would be closer ,try looking on YouTube.

Updates.
The C-97 AEW & C now has the engines off a P-3C Orion. Sanded down and will keep the C-97 landing gear either from the kit or white metal. Going to paint the E-2 rotodome first before attaching it to the upper fuselage. Will mask out windows before using primer . Resin tyres.

Captain Canada

Gonna be quite the machine ! Got any pics ?
