I often see the words ''Use an old/worn out/discarded toothbrush for...".
I don't know about you but I don't wear out many toothbrushes and when I do they are good for one thing: The rubbish heap!
However I do know I can go on down to the local "Everything A Dollar/Pound/Shekel" shop and get a package of four or more toothbrushes. They are too stiff bristled for my tender gums, plain cut with no 'Magic' shaping and do a great job of scrubbing parts for whatever purpose. If you ruin one somehow it's then off to the recycle/rubbish bin.
And that leaves your good old comfortable fang polisher right where it really belongs.

When the M-16 first came out the GIs were using toothbrushes to clean the small inner parts. Finally the government came out with a toothbrush shaped cleaning tool. Olive green of course! I wish I knew what the price difference was.

When I joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force back in 1986 they were still issuing the ankle boot until the high boot was standard within the services. Using the back or the base of a toothbrush I used to rub eh leather smooth .Some of the old boys would chew the inside leather to soften the leather smooth prevent rubbing. The rest of the toothbrush made a great polish applier to those hard to get to places .

I use old ones for cleaning the gunk out from around the faucets. Keeps the taps nice and clean like a pro

I use mine in a modelling capacity, when striping paint.  I use an old toothbrush with Fairy Power Spray, the stiff bristles allow me to apply a fair bit of pressure but not too much so I don't damage the surface underneath.  Useful for getting in hard to reach places too.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Trust me, the Beltway Bandits probably made more $$$ off one toothbrush than any of us make in a day.  ;D

Use a £1 store special for cleaning resin kits before starting work on them. Like Go4Fun I don't tend to have any old, used ones
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
