Have you tried spraying them with clear gloss instead of Superfilm?

I'm told that binds the colour but doesn't effect the film & the decals set down better.

Thanks, I'll try that.

In case someone else can shed some light on the situation, what ink and paper are you using? I'm no expert either but I suspect one product is not getting along with another.

Testors decal paper and an HP inkjet.  On larger stuff like the roundels the curling doesn't get so bad, easily managed if it happens.

What Womby said, I gave up on Superfilm years ago precisely because of that curling.

The clear acrylic spray that I use has worked 100% every time, but I got it in the UK, so it'll be called something else in all other countries.  :banghead: :banghead:

What is Superfilm?

What are you sealing the decals with after you have printed them (I use testors decal sealer)?  Could that be reacting?

I have had a similar problem when I have got carried away with the clear coat and out it on too heavy.  The solution in my case was to sneak up on the decals with a number of mist coats.

It's the stuff that Microscale make to seal your home printed decals, but they've kept to the same formula for umpteen years and I suspect the ink and paper technology has moved on since then.

OK, thanks.  I have something they make called "liquid decal film".  I could never get it to work on home printed decals but its ok for restoring old, prone to shattering decals.

Next entry in the Cuban Missile Crisis series might a Skyknight in French colours, probably the same scheme I put on the Skywarrior a while back. The Matchbox one is taunting me from the stash, just daring me to do it.

Another one to delay everything else. Can't remember where or when I picked up this one, but it dared me to do something with it. Previous owner had started to (badly) paint it, don't know what they used but a 2 day soak in brake fluid hardly did anything. A little sanding at least smoothed it out. No instructions, no decals, so it could involve more swearing than normal. Probably going to do it in Aeronavale scheme, dark blue all over, with Suez stripes, as I have a sheet of French Navy roundels that need using up. Clear pieces are hopeless, but they'll have to do.

Nicely weathered paint.   ;D ;D

Major painting is done, now on to the decorations. I know that the blue is lighter than the real thing, so dark it was almost black. I happen to like a lighter shade, so that's what the Aeronavale did in my universe.

That's neat mate. Impressive canopy framing

I can see what you mean about the canopies, they appear to have been ... made out of, well, Araldite, really ... but the rest is looking ace!
