I didn't know port came in any other colour   ;D

#1 son is a nautical buff, so I've started on this one for his shelf. No whiffery involved.

Here's what I use as a mat on my modeling desk. One of the clients our courier company has is Habasit, a manufacturer and distributor of various belting materials. This is a scrap piece of conveyor belt that was liberated from their garbage bin. Tough as a bear, it will no doubt outlast me.

Tamiya Fine White Primer, you can't kill this stuff! I think most of us already know how awesome this paint is, but it's strength is something new to me. A few minutes ago I needed to remove the paint from a couple of wings, so I scrubbed it with an old toothbrush dipped in brake fluid. Came off in no time, revealing the primer underneath, which wasn't touched. If anything it looks harder, with an interesting sheen to it; not quite gloss, not quite semi-gloss. Indestructible.

That's a good idea Rat. stop things from sliding about, and there's no way you'd gouge the table underneath !

Hard enough trying to gouge the belting material. That stuff is tough.

Salvaging a stuff-up

Things didn't go well with my first attempt at the Matchbox Vickers Wellesley. Construction was okay, but the decals couldn't be revived from their ancient state even with slatherings of Micro Superfilm and varnish. They insisted on suicide.

What's left of the starboard roundel after carving it off.

The port wing walkway markings weren't much better than this even before scrubbing them away.

So let's strip the paint soon. But what markings? Hmmm, there were two different ones with the Airfix Fairey Battle...

Belgian might look good!

Indeed, it will suit Belgian roundels
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Kicking around a Wellesley idea. One more in the stash to play with, but what to do? I've seen them as twin-engined and, I believe, three-engined conversions, so that idea is covered. So how about...

NO engines?!

Those long wings might be practical for an assault glider. So you take a few from the scrapheap, remove the engine, lengthen the nose a bit to compensate for C of G, perhaps add a forward cockpit instead of the top one, maybe not, and Operation Overlord has a new silent infiltrator.

....and lengthen the wings.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Jettison able rocket pods where the under wing pods went. Maybe several tubes per pod to keep altitude for that final push into enemy territory.....

Nah, twin engined biplane.  DO the same twin engined thing but using the engines from two aircraft and then shorten one set of wings to fit where the wings normally go and join the other set and fit above the aircraft on the usual strut arrangement.
