Okay, crappy cel phone pic before I get some proper stuff done. Can't see the upper nose aerial in this pic, but you also can't see a lot of the bad stuff. I'll detail the changes when I write up the article.

Must be past time to clean the modeling desk and room. For a few hours today I lost an set of instructions to a 1/48th Hurricane.  :banghead:

Now if you'd have lost the kit then I would agree  ;D

A few weeks ago I decided to get myself out of a bit of a modeling funk by slapping together a quick and simple Real World build. I'm sure most of us used to do them at one time. Of course, the 'quick and simple' part immediately goes out the window when confronted with the actual plastic between one's fingers. Not enough to go JMN on the thing, but enough to make me take some time to build at least a semblance of something presentable.

A poke through the stash revealed the victim: the venerable and decidedly simple Frog/Revell Blackburn Skua. This was designed in ages past, when knights and dragons fought over fair maidens, and ale was still served in leather mugs. Should just take a few hours, right?

Yeah, sure. After test fittings, hair pullings, second and third doubts, gluing gradually commenced. Seams were gradually filled. Detailing was studiously ignored. And finally the basic big bits were all together.

Painting was stalled until I could obtain some bronze coloured Rub & Buff, or suitable facsimile, for the cowling. Plain brown just won't cut it. So, look for something else to hack away at. Various kits were pulled out; some were washed to remove the mold release oil, others had little bits of work done, until I was confronted with the Matchbox Beaufighter Mk-X, another kit which has serious limitations. But... what's that? That there! WHAT'S THAT?! There's something deeeelightful in the box!

Plans to make the Beau with a full load were immediately binned when I spied the torpedo. After all, once the torpedo was dropped another didn't magically appear, so whenever it gets built it will be depicted after a sortie.

But the Skua? It will no longer be a boring Real World lump of polystyrene, but a torpedo armed whif, ready to do serious damage to the Kriegsmarine operating in the Atlantic. Or maybe the Baltic, or the Mediterranean, or wherever a possible back story takes it.

The bench feels a bit more like home than it has for a while.

Been a while since I've added anything here. A bit of a funk lately, nagging health problems, both emotional and physical, and just general malaise. (I hate that swine, never should have made it past recruit) But things may be looking up...

Tomorrow we leave for ten days in paradise, also known as Killarney Provincial Park http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/killarney. Everything is packed, we just need to put the canoe on the roof of Monica's car tomorrow morning, and we're off. If anyone wants to drop in, we'll be about here, give or take a few metres: 46.015458, -81.402698 (Google map reference)

I hope that I will return invigorated, and ready to hit the bench again. Once I get the fish smell off my hands.  ;D

Couple of weeks ago we were in Tadoussac, Quebec, but despite being a great place, and a lovely time, it wasn't enough to pull me out of this depression. It ended all too quickly. Perhaps ten days of canoeing, fishing, hiking, and campfire watching, will get rid of what Churchill called his 'black dog'. Oh, and gin drinking: http://www.ungava-gin.com/english.html Haven't had that one before, picked it because CANADA!
